I borrowed my friends pessoa to lunge my horse last night (trying to build up top line!) - have never used one before, but had a basic idea of what went where, so managed to connect it all up and set off....

It took a few minutes for him to settle with the strap round his quarters but he worked very nicely, forward and round, and it obvioulsy made him work hard.... so we stopped after 15 mins or so, with me feeling rather pleased about my new found quick and lazy (for me!) way of getting him to work properly.... (I normally end up running as much as him to get him to put some effort in on the lunge!!!)

It wasnt until I finished lunging that my friend popped over to see how I got on and pointed out that I had it on the advanced setting with the straps running back up to a D ring at the withers instead of the beginners setting which is between the legs on the girth!!!!!!

Poor bugger, no wonder he had to work so hard!!!

Whoops!!!

A super gadget though, but I will make sure to put it on the beginners setting next time (if he ever lets me put it on him again!!)!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine did this and the next day her horse was really stiff and uncomfortable which lasted until the back man sorted out the horses muscles (took about a week). You might need to keep an eye on yours over the next few days to make sure he's not suffered any ill-effects.
They are a fab bit of kit but can cause discomfort if overdone.

funnily enough i substituted my lesson this week for my instructor bringing her pessoa & teaching me how to fit it correctly & work my horse in it , in preparation for buying my own

very gald i did on fearing this!

He seemed fine the next day (phew!)

He is used to being worked in an outline and forward when schooling - he just takes the P on the lunge - so I only felt guilty for a little while!!

Will get my freind to double check before I start when I use it next time tho!
