Ok so I have a friend whos riding one of my ponies at the moment. Anyway I think it would be really good for her and the pony to do some work on the lunge so....

How do I lunge (tack wise) odviously saddle so she can ride but does he need a cavvesson?? I'm clueless!!!! Would like to lunger them over jumps if it makes any diffrence?

Any other hints or tips much appreciated

Please help!!!!

thanks

if as you say you are clueless then dont attempt to lunge pony and rider. good lungeing is a skill. make sure pony lunges beautifully and on voice command before adding rider into equation. your friend and pony would benefit more from a few lessons with a good instructor.

Hey there!

I tend to lunge in a headcollar sometimes

but I know the correct way is to use a proper cavesson noseband etc!

However when I'm working a stronger horse I'll lunge them in their bridle. Way I do it is to clip the lunge line on the outside bit ring, bring it over their head and thread through the inside bit ring! Seem's to give good control and no horses have objected to it yet!

Have fun!

I'd say yes probably- if he's good on the lunge anyway it shouldn't make much difference!

However if it all goes poop nd it's not working seek advice of expert nd yadda yadda yadda!

If you don't know how to lunge with a rider on board, you certainly shouldn't be lunging over jumps with a rider on board. You say that you feel the horse and rider woudl benefit from lessons on the lunge - exactly what are you aiming to achieve? I struggle to think of a scenario where I would choose to lunge horse with rider over jumps over other methods.
