Lunging

excessively (sp?) id probably say yes.... if its only a few mins on each rein that shouldnt do any harm

Also depends on how fit the horse is... if your lugeing to build up muscle and top line then IMO it might put too much strain on the muscles as the horse hasnt got enough ad it could be a but achey afterwards.

Mine does quite abit of lunging not every day tend to do 'walkies too' loose schooling, joining up....always changing what i'm doing on lunge too, jumping, poles, tack, 'Scary things'' etc... Like schooling evry day just keeping it different. Oh btw mines 6 but eduction of 3 years and I lunge as a big part of backing. Why do you ask?

It depends on your horse, age etc what you are looking to achieve and of course the quality of surface of the arena.

I think we would need a bit more detail in order to help you.

I'm not riding at the moment as I have out on too much weight over Christmas & then on holiday so as an incentive to lose it (and also to avoid hurting horse) I am not going to ride. My daugher still rides him but as she is a bit nervous I always used to ride him first so if he was going to do anything stupid he would do it then. Also she does not feel ready to canter him yet (she fell off him in canter) so he is not really getting enough work to build some topline & general condition. We loose school over jumps and lunge with pessoa/without pessoa plus walk/trot in hand but 10/15 lunging before she rides is much easier.
