Lunging

I am confused about the further 3 posts, what did you see that made you think I was 12?
You have a 26 year old horse that may or may not have colic, lives on his own and you want to teach him to lunge and lie down so you can ride him bareback. You are surely making this up or you are very young, I know which one I’m going for .....

? Or possibly both , a new member as well.

I wouldn't be lunging an oldie, it's very hard on the joints

^^^ I agree. There is another post on here about lunging a 4yo after injury.

In both cases a big "no-no" in my humble opinion.

If you want a knackered horse this is the best way to go about it.
