Does anyone know of coats for large lurchers, that will withstand a dog that runs around

like a maniac at every possible opportunity? He has two coats, but we keep having to

repair them as he rips the stitching in the front. Do you know of any that elasticated or

strong enough to cope with running? He is between 28-30 inches from top of tail to

bottom of his neck, and stands at 30 inches at the withers.

This is the maniac in question, Charlie, we've had him since the start of summer, when he

was found running along the side of the A68. We don't know anything about him, but he

has grown an awful lot since we got him, so we pressume he's still quite young.
He's pictured with Saffie, who has slight addiction and fixation problems, with things like

toys, sticks, kittens and squirels. She is another rescue who we've had for two years,

(any ideas of her breed?!) who, having adjusted into a life as a spoilt princess, is having

lots of fun bullying her little brother, and stealing all of his toys.

This picture was taken when we first got him; you can see how underweight he was, and

he had a nasty scabby rash. He arrived from his temporary home with a friend, with a

bed; but he quickly decided that sleeping upsidedown on the sofa with Saffie would be

much more fun, and would allow him to stretch out completely (He can take up the whole

thing!) And yes, if you were wondering we are living in a static caravan while building a

house; possibly not the best idea ever...

My not-quite-so-giant-also-boisterous-and-virtually-hair-free lurcher has a Rambo coat which has stood up remarkably well and is, amazingly, "self-righting" like their blankets. The only catch is they don't make them specifically for pointy dogs so the belly band is loose and the velcro isn't quite in the right place. He can run in it, though, which we haven't found is always the case in other waterproof coats.

He also has an Equafleece jumper which is fantastic. It's not waterproof, obviously, but I wash it with my own fleeces in tech wash and it keeps him pretty warm and dry even in light rain.

We're waiting on a new coat from http://www.akcreations.co.uk/ - will let you know.

I'm becoming an expert . . .

best ever coats for lurchers are www.equafleece.co.uk. Our lurcher wears a flourescent yellow jumper with the front legs in as she has no meat on her and her coat although looks wirey is actually really fine so wind, rain and snow make her really cold. The fleeces are waterproof and warm and really do last for years. They will do special sizes at no extra cost as we needed a 22" size chest and neck - but needed it 3 inches longer on the back and 2 inches longer on the tummy. They do special lurcher/greyhound/whippet shapes so cater for the immense rib cage and the minute waist.
