Beast came in yesterday with a tree trunk leg, unable to put weight on it and refused to let anyone near it. After getting over my squeaking fit , rang the vet who said its either a black thorn or lymphangitis. He is on bute and anti-inflams and is being poulticed. I am walking him in hand a few times a day on long walks (am tired now!) .
I am so worried its lymphangitis, old RS horse had it and she was always being bandaged, had a fatty fetlock and was always being jabbed on a just in case basis. Known few more with it and its a pain to deal with IMO. I have been worried that his diet might cause a small deal of bog standard stable leg (adlib haylege and stabled at night) but didnt expect an oak for a leg!
eek eek eek panic panic eeeeek
thoughts, suggestions ideas?? Plz?

I had a horse with lymphangitis and he was on strong human antibiotics for a few weeks (the vet gave me human ones because they are cheaper than the animal version - nice vet thinking of my pocket), I can't remember what they were called but I had to dissolve the capsules and syringe them to him 3 times aday, cold hose and walk in hand. He made a full recovery and touch wood he hasn't had it again.
I have also had Lymphangitis (I always come out in sympathy with my animals) and the first antibiotics they put me on didn't touch it when I went back they ended up giving me the same ones as the horse! My mum thought that was hilarious! I can tell you lymphangitis is not pleasant and the blisters are revolting especially has I had them on my head

they were incredibly itchy but you couldn't touch them because if you caught one the pain was horrid, its not something I wish to have again but my horse didn't seem overly bothered!

hi my horse is just recovering from a bout of lymphangitis, she was on bute and anti biotics for a week, the initial swelling took about a week to go but then found her leg just kept puffing up with soft fluid which would work off. I went and got some 'puffy leg' herbs from globel herbs and it has worked a treat and her leg is now back to normal, it is about £26.00 for a tub, would def recommend you get it.
