Hi all. Have recently bought a 3yo section d who's currently got a bout of lymphangitis. (I know it was a but silly of me to buy him with it but it was a case of buy him now or not at all so decided to take a chance with him.) He has been seen by the studs vet and had antibiotic injections and powders so I'm guessing the infection has cleared.....just leaving the swelling?? It's not the worst I've seen, just one swollen back leg, but would love to get it to disappear. Any advice on what would help? Also would a supplement designed to boost the lymphatic system help? If such thing exists?

Hi

Ive had a horse with Lymphangitis in the past, after the initial bout of it i found he was always prone to it. Obviously the more he is moving the better it got as it was getting the circulation going. The other thing i invested in which worked wonders was an equissage hand unit, it really promotes good circulation in the leg and gets rid of all the toxins etc. I used it then as a preventative measure to keep it at bay rather than tryin to sort it when he had it.

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I've been doing some research and have found that the herb clivers (also known as cleavers or goose grass) is recommended? Have you ever tried it. I bandaged him up when he came in tonight but not sure what else to do.

My old mare had a bout of it in the winter - she was walked out in hand and cold hosed to bring down the swelling, had the vet and antibiotics and is now just on the Naf supplement (sorry can't remember its name) but its to prevent lymphangitis and -touch wood, has not a repeat performance.

As a matter of course, she now wears thermatex leg wraps in the winter now but that is also because she is a thin skinned TB x and 22 so it seems to keep her comfortable.

Cleavers is at its growing peak just now, you should be able to get some fresh stuff [sticky willow we call it]
Here a dog is eating it, and someone says:

......"Takes after his mother as Briar eats it as well and hasnt hurt her so far. Can be used to cure cystitis, psoriasis and eczema. The leaves and stems can be cooked as a spinach if picked before the seeds form. Plant is called Cleaver."
