On Page 78 of this weeks horse and hound there is a piccy of Lynn Russell with Blue Moon. Can anyone please tell me what bit this horse has in and what it does? Thanks

I don't know what it's called, only that it's a variation on a double. But I do know that Lyn uses weymouth bits with the most enormous ports and very long shanks - goodness knows what the roof of the animals mouth is like.

I have a lot of admiration for her though - she seems to get so much out of her horses in the ring by just 'sitting' there! They always look so calm and relaxed.

She never uses a lip-strap either, which I always thought was a 'no-no' in the showing world.

Haven't got my copy at work, but am guessing it is probably a Swales Pelham -

yep, looks like a swales. Why don't you write in to the ask us section. Or did they already do swales... or was it sam marsh... Anyway the fact lynn russels horses seem to win just about everything I think is a testament to how good her hands are. I mean shes not a big person and it just supports the saying that "a bit is only a cruel as a riders hands"

It is a swales and it is a picture of Zenith I think. Blue Moon is blue and white and nothing like that one! That's what happens when you win three classes on three different horses ...
