I have used one with great success for winter shows and fixed the bottom of the hood to his rug to stop it riding up, but what do you do in the summer when they haven't got a rug on?

My yearling has one, the one with ear and eye holes. She's wearing it before shows after plaiting up. I got mine from eBay and it runs down her neck and around her shoulders, and secures with velcro tabs around her girth area. Works fine w/o rug.

Well

I put one on our grey last night because we had an early start this morning. He was 3/4 completely plaited, I had 6 left to roll up and stitch in place because it got dark before I finished. The hood has eye and ear holes, just a pull on sort.

so I got up there at 6am this morning and he was looking very pleased with himself, he'd managed to take the hood off!. Luckily the plaits were just as I'd left them last night, just a few shavings to pick out, and the poo stain was on his ear, none on his neck, thank goodness otherwise I would probably have cried.

I finished sewing them in and put on another hood we have, which just has ear holes only, it also is the sort that has an elastic surcingle round the belly as part of it. I should have used that one, he couldn't have got that off surely? Oh, and he didn't try and take that one off on the 3 hour drive we had to do to get to the comp.
