Lyrics in freestyle music

I have been thinking about trying some freestyle, but having watched several classes I find some of the music quite borig, repetitive and old fashioned. I would really like to use something that is 'me', but when I have been thinking through, they all have lyrics.

Any suggestions?

Should Grace ever come back into competitive work I have the perfect music for her which also contains lyrics... I would really like to use it though!

What are your views on it?
 
I was going to do some dressage to music with my local riding club, I have some music in mind that fit's Axey perfectly and that all has lyrics to it and tbh it wouldn't be the same without the lyrics!
I didn't do it in the end but I would have used the music with lyrics anyway as it's not in the rules that you can't!
 
I think Freestyler's music had lyrics in it?

All the ones i've seen during judge training have been instrumental. Can you find an instrumental version of the music?

I'm really not sure on this....will be interesting to see what people think!

Most music you can get instrumental versions of if you google them. I found a really good website that does loads of different songs in instrumentals.
 
It's not against the rules to include lyrics but it's thought that it distracts the judges and can therefore affect marks. Have to say if I was judging I think I'd prefer to see it ridden against an instrumental version so the emphasis is on how the horses moves in time with the music, can see why it would be distracting if lyrics were included. But yeah people do do it, like FMC said Freestyler has lyrics

I have used music with lyrics with various response. If the lyrics are fairly discrete then seems ok, but did one competitioon with some rock music and judge said she found the lyrics distracting. Have also used soem modern stuff which judge apparently found 'too repetitiive'. Thinks depends how crusty judge is! If you want a chance of winning you will have to toe the line and use instrumental unless you have a wow horse.

You can get comp programmes that will remove the vocals, but I find this leaves a weird sounding whine. I would have a go with the music you like, and see what happens. Good luck

Thanks... I can see how it would be a little distracting, but surely a judge should be able to still see the horse in comparison to the beat of the music???

I think this is why dressage has a bit of a stuffy reputation... it is not being modernised. I have to say, the test I remember most from Olympia was Laura B's with her fabulous reggae music!
 
Not if it is good music!

It is only dreary and background if it doesn't fit to the horse and the rider doesn't use the rises and falls of the music.

Just avoid any boring instrumental versions

I am going to have a look via the internet to see whether I can find the instrumental to the music I am thinking of. How about just a few lyrics???
 
Go on... be a devil!!!! Use lyrics!!! Will probably be slated for saying this!!! LOL!!! I did one without lyrics to some instrumental and it just was NOT the same, my audience fell asleep and I was not as motivated!!! I suppose it does depend, I used Swing/Doo-Whop music and trying to find this without lyrics is virtually impossible, and when I did it was not to the beat of my horse....I used lyrics although not all the way through the tunes...cut and paste, on Mixmeister so there is not toooo many lyrics etc and voila! Expressive music for you and your horse!!
 
Someone famous does it to Elvis music and includes some of the lyrics - can't think who at the moment, it will come to me as soon as I press submit - she fades out the words and fades them back in again for the chorus.

Admittedly you still don't get much of the lyrics played, but you could try it - a half and half approach!!
 
What a brilliant site, Druid, at last DTM seems almost possible .....need to get OH counting BPM now!
