Hi All,

I am just about to book saddler to come and fit my cob a new saddle. I want to make sure whoever comes out brings a selection that will give us the most possible options/choice, not just one that fits, so thought I'd see what saddles you all have on similar horses, which have been best etc...

Also those with reasonably compact chunky Cobs 6'ish Rugs and adult riders, what size saddle do you use? (I am sure my 18" fheonix is going to be written off as too big, but I live in hope!!)

Thanks

I have a 14.2 lightweight cob who is in a 6'3 turnout, 6' stable rug, she has a big shoulder and a slighly defined wither, she has always had WH saddles or VSD s in 17.5 and a wide fit. she had a 18' falcon Adler vsd extra wide when she was very porky, (needs a new home)

my 14`3`` cob wears a 6`3`` rug done up on the tightest hole at the front.i have tried 6` rugs on but they are just too small and sit on top of her bum.(who would think that 3`` make that much difference?)

her saddle is a 17 1/2 `` thorogood wide cob saddle.
the cob style saddle is cut in a way to accomodate cob shoulders.

hope this helps.

I have a very broad HW 16hh cob who wears 6.9" rugs and he's in a 17" (I am short and thin so don't really need larger seat) Ideal extra wide (I *think* they do a 'cob' or 'maxi cob' style and this is it).

I have a MW 15.2hh cob cross, she wears 6'3 or 6'6'' rugs depending on shape and Ideal saddles wide fit are best for her, her GP is 17in and her dressage is 17.5in.

I have a very wide and chunky 15hh wwith a very short back. She is in a 6'3" rug, but only Masta ans some weatherbeeta rugs fit her because if her wide chest and shoulders.

I had a Fylde Ray saddle made for her in the end because we just couldn't get anything wide enough off the peg or second hand. She is in a 17" in XXX+wide fitting.

My gypsy cob is the taller lighter type at nearly 15.1. He is a little longer in the back than the "square" pony gypsy cobs.

He wears a 17" saddle but could take at 17.5". I went for the 17" as I have very short legs and am a short arse, plus it was nearly new and exactly what I wanted on ebay.

He is in 6'3 rugs but is rising 6 and so has a lot more filling out to do and may end up in 6'6 rugs.

i have a 16hh Maxi show cob, in 7ft rugs, my show saddle is a 17" ideal ramsay & have a 17 1/4 Isebel werth Synthetic in the widest gullet!

p.s I found this web site with a lovely lady who owns it & i think this could be a good one for all us cob owners to get tack & rugs to fit!

My 15.1hh cob takes between a 6' and a 6'3" depending on make and I use a Samber Working Hunter saddle by Derby House.

i think you should buy a horse to fit your saddle.

i think i may know of one for you... a 15.1hh bay gelding, hanoverian x polish WB, nice horse, got a bald patch on the top of his leg...

Also a highland but a 15.1 highland and has 6.3" rugs. 181/2", Pathfinder from keith Bryan, made to measure. He changed shape later that year and since then, has been in a Wintec gp, 171/2", wide fit. The wintec fits him far better than the one I paid over £1000 for!!!
