what must a m+m affiliated individual show include/not include. do i include rein back or is that at the judges request? do i salute??? ive made one up currently that consitis of a trot on each rein , ac anter on each rein and a gallop/forward canter round the back of the line up.

you always salute at the end. shows should be short and to the point. i dont like galloping round the back of the line-up coz judge has to sqint through other horses to see you, but sometimes it's the only appropriate place in the ring. my basic show consists of minimal walk, trot one long side then start a figure of eight and pick up canter, changing the leg with a decent amount of trot over the diagonal then picking up the other canter lead for the rest of the figure of eight and including a gallop down the long side, before collecting up the canter and coming back into a balanced trot and back down to a steady halt (not skidding down into an unbalanced one after an out of control gallop and nearly running the judge over as i have seen plenty of times!). i dont include rein back and dont usually see this in M&M classes, although if your horse does it especially well and you want to include it, then dont see why not. i dont have a set plan before i go in though - a lot depends on the layout of the ring and the ground. you have a good chance to assess the ground on the go round - lots of rings are on slight slopes etc so you do not want to be doing your gallop downhill and need to alter your show accordingly.

Second star - but I wouldnt bother with the rein back. Been watching my YO in HOYs and Olympia qualifiers and no-one does a rein back, most stick to a nice short show and more often than not the gallop will happen behind the ride.

I too think that galloping in front of the judge would make more sense, but all the shows Ive been to everyone goes behind the line up. And Yes Salute at the end of your show
