Hello everyone. I'm taking my welsh section b to an in hand m and m class next weekend. It's a new in hand class that I'm venturing into and I was just wanting some general advice and tips. What exactly do I need to wear? I have cream jodhpurs, brown jodhpurs boots, brown showing cane, navy velvet hat and either a navy or tweed show jacket. Which would be best? And is there anything else I need? What will we have to do? Do you have to trot away from the judge or back to? Or do you do a lap of trot? Also I know in some classes it is a necessity to salute the judge at the end, will I need to do this? Is there anything in specific the judges are looking for? Thank you in advance to all replies :)

For M&M inhand class you need to wear a tweed jacket, trousers in a contrasting colour to the horses legs, shirt, tie and navy hat.

A basic in-hand class runs - all enter at walk on the right rein. The steward will stop everyone in a line at one corner and you individually trot round to the end of the line. No need to stop and salute anywhere. Once everyone has trotted you carry on walking round the ring until directed to come into the middle. When its your turn stand your pony up in front of the judge, move out of the judges way when they are looking t the bit you are standing by. Answer any questions - some ask you to show them the ponies teeth so make sure your pony is ok with that. You then walk straight away from the judge, turn back on yourself and trot back to the judge on the same line you walked away on. The judge will move out of the way so keep trotting, trot round to about half way down the line up, pull up and walk back to your place in the line. The judge will then get you to all walk round again to choose her final placings. The lap of honour is the only time you will trot as a group.
