Have got the Highland Show looming and am trying to preperations now since this will be the biggest showing thing we've done so I really want to be turned out as well as possible.

Any tips for turning out a Welsh Cob (doing ridden & M&M Workers)? As in turning him out. Im trying to think of the best coat shine sprays... but theres so many! And also thinking of some sort of oil for enhancing eyes / muzzle etc. but again which kind is best? And with shampoo - what would you recommend for a very dark bay who has got a little bit tinged brown in the sun???

With regards to turn out for your horse tack wise, just simple brown tack.

Shampoo.....I never buy anything fancy, Tescos own brand, Jahoba (cant spell!) smells nice! Feathers, fairy liquid, gets the grease out really well and great for white socks/tails.

Faces, baby no tears! Muzzles, baby oil, but do not smother otherwise it picks up the dirt, just a gentle wipe over. Coat I use show sheen, the only horse product I buy.

I think all the coat shines are about the same, maybe try sticking a flyrug on to stop his coat fading and feed a bit of oil until the show.

i would reccomend the asorbine show shine.

I would not use the car day and martin show shine as it attracts dust which is not good on a dark horse.

i use a dog conditioning spray, by Groomers, smells gorg, everyone on the yard always comments on how good galaxys coat looks (althugh i do groom him lots) and that he smells of chanel no5!

pocket - Oh dear, well we have black tack for a start! He's very dark bay (black when not sun faded) so I felt black tack would look better, plus he has to wear a Wintec Wide Saddle as its the only one Ive found to fit him so far (which is black). Tesco shampoo, fairy liquid and tiny bit of baby oil - ok

CCJ1 - He's wearing a Rambo fly rug as we speak but unfortunately I left it off for a couple of weeks last month while I was fixing it...! He's fed on Soya Oil all year round.

I dont know where to get the dog conditioning spray... never heard of it? But I do know where to get the Absorbine Show Shine so will get some

I cant remember the names of the stuff we use - f's owner is a bit of a horsey toiletry shopaholic!! Feeding linseed means when we wash F in whatever shampoo (think best one is superpoo) he always gleams anyway. the people that make Megatek do a mane and tail conditioner that not only smells lovely is gorgeous too! I would use a black/brown shampoo on him, don't usually with F (who is also a dark bay welsh cob by the way) but would help with the faded bits.

I wouldn't worry about tack - brown is correct for showing, and at that level they might pull you up on it but he suits black better, and how many of us can afford 2 sets?

He sounds a lot like F, hope you have a brilliant time!

Ok thanks all

Naturally - Not sure if "brilliant" will be how the day turns out, I just hope he doesn't buck all the way round in his canters as its rather an exciting atmosphere...! We're only going for fun though and with the aim of jumping a clear WH as I heard the course should be tough. You need a pic of your Welshie in your sig!
