Hello! Looking for as much advice as I can get.
i have a Welsh section D 14.2h 6yrs old
I am looking to compete in M&M working hunter classes. He definitely has showing ring presence about him and has what looks to be great jump on him.
I just have no idea where to start I use to show county level but never did any jumping.
what section would I come under?
What height would we be jumping?
I understand that we would just keep showing attire as we would for the flat.
Please let me know if I should know anything else

As a large breed you would be in the top group jumping fairly stiff tracks 90cm + if you go open affiliated so I would just look for some local shows, even just cr sj to get you started and some miles on the clock this season with a view to doing aff novice classes early next season or over the winter, aiming for int/ opens at the end of 2022 if he is ready.

Turnout the same as flat classes but boots can be worn for the jumping phase.

Large breed or over 138cms, is minimum 85cm height of fences for open classes, novice minimum height is 60cm.
Depending on your area, you need to look out for BSPS or NPS shows, they might have novice classes in the summer but as BP says, you'll be more likely to find novice classes in the winter.
Some of the smaller area shows might well have less trappy/long courses.

I suspect this summer is going to be pretty busy once restrictions lift further, get plenty of practice in with all sorts of fences in the meantime. Good luck.

There are now 4 sections. You’d be in the top one (exceeding 143cms). Novice height is Max 85cms, restricted max height is 95cms & open height is 1m. For RIHS and HOYS max height is 105cms. If you have a look at he BSPS or NPS website, they’ll have a list of show and rules.

Forgot to add that some BSPS and NPS shows have training stakes classes which range from 50cms to 1m. They’re open to any type (so plaited or M&M) but can be good if the show doesn’t have the class you’re after.
