Well the dressage was a no show on Sunday morning due to the weather, would you Adam and Eve it after I spent all Saturday afternoon running around the outdoor school like some deranged nut case learning my test...great for keeping fit though, I must of burnt off loads of calories! while my friends watched out their window from one of the houses near the livery yard in stitches wondering what on earth I was doing...well they knew as they were also going to the dressage also, but couldn't resist ringing me on my mobile and asking me what test I was doing because if I was doing the same as them...I was going wrong... several times!

Yes I sprang out of bed at 7:30am and looked out of my window (after I'd spent the evening getting all my clobber ready, hand washing my stock in the kitchen sink, cleaning my bridle and running through the test a 1000 times in my mind etc etc all excited) and what did I see when I looked out of the bedroom window?, blooming white roof tops and twinkling window ledges! and thought

''Phew! the good old British weather has saved me, god has spared me from the evil clutches of the dressage judge perched in her little wooden box tapping her pen eagerly waiting to put a big fat 0% on my test sheet''

I said to the the OH who was half asleep, he grunted some unknown language, f*arted and rolled over and fell back asleep again.

as only a true man does!

But I was un-deterred and shoe horned my shrunken white jods on, banged some slap on, bunged everything in the car, carefully drove down to the yard and as I passed a car that was literally bent round a lamp post in the next village I decided it was too icey for a 45 minute hack up to the competition centre at 8:15 in the morning!....my test time as at 9:36 so instead of having a little bit of a lay in on Sunday morning I was down at the yard mucking out and bedding down before the YO was even up, I think he thought I must of sh*t the bed to be down there and mucking out at that time lol! even Mackenzie had a look of shock/horror

as I put his head collar on and turned him out lol.

So for all those wishing me the best of luck for Sunday and wondering how we got on...well it didn't happen I'm afraid and spent the rest of the day sulking because I was really looking forward to doing his first dressage test and having another outing with him again, of course by 10/11am the ice had melted and sun came out but for me to be up there, warmed up and ready for a 9.36 test it was impossible.

So no reports...and no pictures guys sorry

I hate it when you hype yourself up for an outing and it doesn't happen. Never thought of practising tests on foot, i just ride round with the test paper in my mouth flapping in my face looking like an even bigger loon...

Already have, 29th going (hacking down) to same place for a a group lesson (jumping) with Giles Carradine, well we wont be doing much jumping, more like pole work in prep for jumping but I'm really looking forward to it, and thats in the afternoon so if its a bit crispy in the morning it shoud of melted away by lunchtime...blooming weather!

I know its a real let down isn't it, worse if your showing and you have gone to the trouble of getting them all ready etc

LOL flapping around in your face, next time try running around on foot with the test in my mouth...brilliant entertainment value.

Sounds like fun, we are taking the baby to her first walk and trot test next week at moorhouse??

I'm not convinced it will be successful however coming back alive could be classed as a success! Is it a typical mare thing or is she just insane she really drives me crazy and takes all of my patience up

Well all the best of luck to you both then, you'll be fine!! Moorhouse Area is not far from us neither (well in horse box that is) does the clipper man still go there?, I could do with my clippers MOT'ing actually, always a good excuse to get nestled in the cafe with a hot drink and sticky bun then then watch the jumping etc....I have to bribe my OH with food to goes to these horsey events!

PMSL. You're one of my favourite posters and now I know why!!!

I've not been there competing before, but just wanted a first day out somewhere nice and quiet - Joshs dad comes and drives my wagon when we take Josh to shows but otherwise I just drive and groom for Cari (the Jockey).

Best of luck for next time, and you did the right thing

I was ready for my first show of the season in March - had spent over three hours getting Stinky clean and sorting out all my show stuff.

Up at the yard at 6 - OH had come with me to get trailer out and do Cairo. For the first time ever he begged me not to go as it was blowing a gale and I use a car and a very light trailer. We were going up the M11 to Norfolk which is very exposed.

Instead, we fed horses and then went to McDonalds at 7 for some brekkie and then took the boys for a nice long walk to find some grass. Cairo all muddy and Chancer looking ready for the show ring. It was actually very nice doing this together.

Far better to miss a show and be safe than risk it - there is always another one to go to.

ha ha - that made me laugh! sounds familiar!
i too had dressage on sunday - like you i was all hyped up, as i am a nervous nelly.
As mine was at my yard i wasnt so worried regarding tack cleaning ect. But got up early, and like you shoe horned myself into impossibly tight jods! Looked at myself in the mirror with horror at the huge muffin top belly that hung over the waist band.
when i got to the yard it was still going ahead although the warm up ring was out of bounds due to it being frozen solid - so we were told we would be give a couple of mins in the arena to warm up - i was secretly relieved as D is sh** scared of the small school and spooks like crazy.
The judge arrived after a while and cancelled it! But again like you the sun was shining down by lunch time. I felt dreadfull as i had left D in because the weather was so bad when i left. and it was too far to go back again to turn him out - although i let him have half hour in the field whilst i mucked out for the second time later that day.
My next one is booked for 14 december. xx

Yes thats true, and yes nothing worse than towing in hight winds, besides I've got more time to practice now so I wont have any excuses for a poor test when ever the dressage is on again

Well I went home to warm up, caught up with Hollyoaks (yes I'm sad

I have a way with words don't I...such a common trollop lol

Teeheee! You should have heard my vet's choice of words today, then. He came out to check George over as he has a cough/cold and has COPD. He had to stick the thermometer up G's bum and said 'just going to slip this in', then when George fidgeted and would not let him do it, he spat on his hand and said 'it just needs a little lubrication', then once he was finished and I called George a silly boy, he said 'well, how would you like a long instrument shoved up your bum?' I don't know who was redder

I had to hold myself back from saying 'oooh, yes purrlease'. Hehe.
