Has anyone had similar experiences please with their mares - when mine's in season, and only then, she tends to reverse into the partition in her stable, squeal and then kick it, she's especially bad at tea time, she's lost countless hind shoes in doing this, has bashed her hocks a few times and alienates her neighbours.... Everyone at the yard just expects this from her and is used to it, but it's not normal!!!! Anyone with any help or advice would be appreciated!! I've tried the "stroppy mare", etc, etc supplements, but nothing seems to chill her.

Do I get the vet to check her out? It is purely hormonal/seasonal related.... Anyone?!!

My 1st summer as a mare owner Ska and my girl isn't too bad. But fellow liveries have told me all sorts of stories about what mares can do when in season. My girl is always protective when she's got a feedbowl and will squeal and kick out at nosy, pushy neighbours whether in season or not. But she's not shod so the potential damage isn't so great. Gotta say, that's not very nice behaviour from your ned...have you tried a yard broom up her bum when she does it?

Not tried the broom tactic..... she doesn't do it when I'm in the stable with her, as soon as I walk away, there she goes, bouncing off the partition.... She's quite sensitive and will sulk for Britain if she's told off.

Have spoken to the vet who has suggested a time on Regumate to try to settle her.... I can't see how that's gonna make a difference though????

Which supplements have you tried? My mare is good on Oestress and most of my friends with mares use it too and swear by it. Its made by NAF. Regumate is very expensive!

Maybe worth having a chat with your vet about getting a marble inserted in her uterus. This is supposed to mimic being pregnant and therefore stop the seasonal behaviour.

Good luck...... to be honest this is one of the reasons I have a gelding
