My friends say I was mad to post about Jake not jumping a ditch in H&H forum - say it will devalue the horse! - but surely people can say when their horse has a problem???? And Jake is a very young horse!

No tis not mad. Theres nothing wrong about it in my opinion. Tbh if I was going to buy a horse I wouldnt care if it jumped a ditch or not.

But hey, thats my opinion

Brontie eventually you may care.

Vanessa maybe it might devalue him but then in a while we will all be reading about how you got over him not jumping ditches! Tbh not many people would be able to trace exactly who this horse from the forum so i think you are safe!

It would only devalue him if you were intending to sell him to someone and tell them he pops over ditches perfectly. If you would have told them anyway, it wouldn't make any difference. I wouldn't take any notice

Thanks - not intending to sell, and if i were would hope i could say that we did have an earlier problem with a ditch, but reliable now - by the way how do you find out about these cliques - Pooh-Ba etc?

Well, if you're not intending to sell it doesn't matter anyway

It depends on how many posts you've made. I think if you go to help/faq at the top it tells you about them. Your next stage is newbie

Gawd! My old mare never liked ditches and thought I ought to be put in them instead of her jumping over them so don't worry and as for devaluing it would take some doing to link you horse off the forum to one being sold.

Did she ever change her mind - i mean did you ever tempt her over them (and if so HOW?!) - or did you just stop asking her to do them?! Also, i did identify Jake - he is Parklands Blackjack, profile at www.spaceforhorses.com - and despite the ditch I am very proud of him!

No she never changed her mind and if we did manage to get over them it was by pure luck, if they were hidden before approaching she might of jumped them but as a rule would put in an extra nasty stop, I tried everything including standing in them to show her that nasty monsters didn't lurk in them but she still hated them.

I wouldn't give it a second thought. Horses are horses, not machines so even those horses who fly over ditches every day without a second thought could put a stop in one day.

It will be something for you to look back on as a great milestone the day that your horse was confidently jumping ditches anyway, after his initial reservations.

Would buyers really be that fickle as to say "oh, I read on H & H however moons ago that he didn't jump a ditch"? As long as he was suitable for whatever they wanted him for at that time, his past should not affect that. It's like saying a horse spooked at a van 3 years ago when he was young - but doesn't anymore. Would it put a serious buyer off - no way.
