Yesterday I spent hours making sure my girls and the old boy had enough water so that my 'checker' didn't have to give them anymore today and tomorrow while I'm busy. I'd got a tank and manually filled it up to the brim. It is not on mains. Meanwhile my fathers cattle had over turned their tank in the next door field and disconnected it from the turning on tappy thing - typical cow/bullish behaviour. I thought in my wisdom, that if cattle should escape to get water then I should give them access to another tank the otherside of my horses electric fencing. (too much grass that side!) Knowing how long it takes for father to mend things, I THOUGHT I was doing everyone human, equine and bovine a favour! Sure enough, cattle escaped and went to the other trough I had allowed for.
I made sure electric fencing was on, with a high powered battery, moved the box out of the way of cows and horses.
So, guess what? Cattle ''somehow'' got in with horses, drank all the water, trashed the dividing barbed wire fence (electric fence still ok) and returned to their place of original existence!
How on earth the horses have stayed put, let alone no injuries I'll never know... but poor things, totally thirsty... and father has been obilivious to all this!! Makes me mad.

My mother has managed to go over and 'make do', I'm just about to shoot over there myself, excusing me from work for this afternoon.

Last thing I said yesterday was 'make sure YOUR cattle get water and if anything escapes let me know - vital for filly not to get in with the long grass and I don't want cattle drinking their water as it is not on mains'....
Give me strength!!

oh dear I guess the cattle are your happy list at the moment but at least they aren't thirsty. your horses are gonna love you when you turn up and fill their water again for them. Just another task you could do without especially in this heat.
