Madness??

I am 73. Last March I had to retire my horse unexpectedly. Since May I have been looking for another horse. Long search - lame horses - suspect sellers. Earlier this week I saw a lovely boy who ticked all the boxes - green in the school but that was expected. Hacked him out and felt so very safe. Hi is 4!! Vetting is tomorrow. Am I mad ??

You, Lady T, are my heroine. I will remind myself of you when I quake in my boots or consider taking up crochet. Thank you.

Best of Luck, great news that he passed the vetting. I did the same as you (horse a little older but very green) and all has been well, with lots of lessons and support.
I actually forgot to think about how old I'd be, given her expected working life & planning ahead, so you are more prepared! I was just ready to buy another horse, which sounds just like you have been feeling too.

He sounds fabulous!

I've had mine a year now, he was a 4yo when he came. I was cautious but have had a lovely year. The odd silly moment, but he is not one to exert himself unduly, so one bounce and it is finished. I wish you all the happiness with your new horse!

The only thing, I have no idea how you can be so patient! I would pay in full now (as long as their care is exemplary), in case they change their minds!

I always insure from when I decide to buy. If they fail the vet, you can cancel within 14 days. The insurance company have OK'ed that. Then there is little time when they are not fully covered.

Congratulations and good luck with the new horse, he sounds lovely. I'm feeling a teeny bit envious as I am really missing having my own horse having lost Rose recently but it's the right decision for me. It doesn't stop me looking though and if I didn't have Mr D to ride I think I'd think about buying again. Keep us posted and put up loads of pics for me to drool over!

Sounds fab, I hope you'll have lots of fun together. Looking forward to the pictures.

My first horse at 15 was a 4yo. My son's recent ponies were a green 5yo and an unbroken pony. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
