Hi everyone. Thank you all so much for your thoughts, vibes and prayers on thread and pm's.

Have just spoken to a very tearful vet (she was there when we saved his dam). Although he is eating and bright in himself, is still on 3 legs. She has given up any hope at all of saving him, the bacteria is too far advanced in her opinion. I have pleaded that we give him another 24 hours (a fighting chance) and bute him and re-flush the tendon. She is going to do this, but if no improvement on assessment in the morning, Magic will be PTS.

Suppose I am really just hoping that another 24 hours of prayers and positive vibes is worth a last chance for the little man.

Please, please continue to send your thoughts to little Magic.

Helen x

Nooo Lou, I dont mind at all. In fact, the more you know, the more positive vibes you can send !

Here is a piccy of Bonnie and Magic when they were rescued last August. We went through thick and thin with them. Bonnie had to be hoisted up most days as she was too weak to get up. Magic was only weeks old and we had to bottle feed him for a while.

Here is a pic of Magic and his rescued friend Harley a couple of months ago after being weaned.

and one more I just found of him (the bigger foal) about a month ago.

None of you deserve to be going through this.

Poor little boy. Do you still have his mum? Is she ok now? x

Yes Lou, we still have mum Bonnie. Here she is in April, a couple of weeks after weaning, minus the lice, worms and after having major dental work :

She was in a very similar state to Dubble's Snowy, but much weaker.

It really doesnt get easier, no matter how many times you go through it

Oh god, this is awful, such an unfair thing to happen to you both. Feel for you so much that you are having to go through this. Crossing everything for you, praying (even tho I am not religious) that there will be good news in the morning.

Long story! Bonnie & Magic were run on the mountain in a herd by a very well known breeder who had judged at the Royal Welsh Show. He bought them off the mountain in case anyone reported him for neglect. They were due to be shot at 10am on the Monday morning and go to kennels. Magic was offered to a livery. He arrived at 12 weeks old and livery couldnt cope. The livery was sworn to secrecy and wouldnt tell us where the mother was. However, she didnt count on me. Im like a JRT with a rag and, after much detective work, we found where Bonnie was. I sent another couple of liveries over to fetch her (my diplomacy in these matters is not good), one being a police officer, the other a psychiatrist. Bonnie arrived that evening ... the rest is history. It took alot of hard work, worry, vets, fire brigade, locals and liveries to help, but we got there. Magic was only gelded, along with his mate Harley, 4 weeks ago. Bonnie is 19 and has been breeding on the mountain all her life.

This shouldnt be happening. I believe in pink and fluffy fairy tail endings. Perhaps its time I took my head out of the clouds. x

That's awful! But good on you for persisting. I'd like to think i could do the same. How long were they apart for? Did they go back together ok? (Sorry for all the questions, but neglect cases really interest me).
Have you heard any more from the vets today? x

Hugs Helen, thinking of you and Magic. He couldn't be anywhere better than with Lisa and Philippa, well, apart from back home with you.

Thanks Abbi, thank you all.

Lisa was on the phone crying this lunchtime, afraid there is absolutely no hope, but she agreed to give him some pain relief and see what tomorrow brings.

The op he had yesterday was very invasive so he is bound to be sore and on 3 legs, but today the drain was blocked with the septis (gunge).

I feel so bloody helpless.

Dont you dare feel helpless - it seems to me that the poor little lad along with his mum would have had no chance whatsoever if you hadnt been the sort of person you are. You have given him the best chance he was ever going to have and well done you for doing so.

How incredibly sad that that outcome is not good, but even now you are doing the best you can for him. He was a fortunate little man when he met you.

I so wish you didnt have to feel so sad about this, but if you didnt it would mean you didnt care.

I really admire you.

I am so sorry to read this post... I am picking up small bits of the history but I do not know what is wrong with Magic, or what operations have been done. However, I will send all the positive healing vibes that I can and think you have done a fantastic job with his Mum, she looks a completely different pony.

How old is Magic and how has he become poorly? You can Pm me if you would prefer.

Fingers crossed with everyone else. Wishing for you the pink fluffy fairytale ending we all want to believe in.

However it ends you have given that young man and his mum probably the best fed and happiest time of their lives.

Have just come in and read the new posts. You all really have me choked up with your special thoughts and wishes. Its hard to hold it all together.

Lisa (vet) phoned me again at 4.30pm to say she wanted to pts. Magic has had no pain relief, so I asked her to just give him bute and re flush as the drain is blocked, and to go with original plan of assessment in the morning. She said that she would, but if she doesnt see a 1% improvement, on welfare grounds she will PTS. He is very bright in himself though and eating well.

Have just spoken to my friend out on the yard who thinks that they ought to give pain relief and give it a few more days. However, the vets (who do flap/panic, as Enfys will tell you) have used the 'welfare grounds' statement which has made me feel awful. Surely, with pain relief does it really matter if we keep him going a few more days, or am I just clutching at straws? I almost feel bullied into agreeing with the vets.

If he is bright and eating the welfare grounds shouldnt be in the forefront of their minds. Animals dont eat if they are in serious pain or very ill. Stick to your original plan and much love . Poor you - absolutely awful.........
