Aghhhh - So confused lol

I have an 8 year old gelding that can sometimes be ridicoulsly spooky and to top it off riggy when the ladies are in season.

Ive had him on both Top Spec Calmer and RigCalm.....but i've stopped both now as i was sure i couldnt give him both at the same time (ive not done this btw) and i was unsure if either really worked to be honest.

well to cut a long story short ive come across a website that sells Magnesium, Brewers Yeast, Valerian and Vervain and its far far cheaper as your not paying for flashy brand names.

BUT im unsure of what would be best to buy as they all have similar descriptions. What have people tried before? ive also heard about Apple Cider Vinegar.....

So many damn options! x

if you don't compete go for valerian, it's one of the one ones I know which works hence why it's banned. You can wean them off it too, and they can learn that hacking for example is not that bad. It works on spookyness well in my experience.

my cob is on valerian, vervain, brewers yeast ,magnesium heavy ,and agnus castus for riggy behaviour. he can now be turned out with a mare and is stabled next to a mare, previously he was dreadful and would just beat all other horses up. saw a big difference in about 2 weeks

thanks Archiepoo....you give him all of these at once? do you buy them all seperately or are they in a calmer already mixed. If not how much of each do you use?

thanks xxx

Was thinking of going with Valerian as he isnt competing but wondered really what the difference was in Valerian and Vervain x

i get all of mine from pro-earth on ebay . i get the individual bags of each and i bought a small gram scale (they sell them for gold ect) so i make sure i give the correct amounts. he has them all everyday for the simple reason he was so nervy and scared of everything i was desperate! hes had no ill effects except being MUCH calmer and less panicky. the website will give you all the benefits of each individual item so you will be able to decide whats best for your horse. they do sell premixed calmers too so have a look http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/pro-earth/m.html

I had found Natural Horse Supplies.co.uk they are good but will check this pro-earth too before i buy anything. How much of each do you give him? x

I get my magnesium off pro-earth on ebay, fantastic stuff and fantastic service and cheaper too! Tried the herbs for mobility for my old mare and the difference in her was incredible! The valerian root looks interesting. I'm currently breaking in my 5 year old and he is incredibly nervous and can turn into a spooking, broncing idiot without warning, wondering if the valerian would help him at all?

i would try him on it. I have an unbroken 8 year old warmblood who is going for breaking next month. I wanted to get this undercontrol before he goes. Hes not always bad but when he is its like his brain had shut down and he goes into full flight mode x

I have just put my mare on magnesium oxide heavy.
She is very hot, stressy and hyper active when riding usually. i did have her on equivite general supplement- it had magnesium in it and I found when she came off it she did get more spooky and hyper. So took her off the equivite as it was so expensive and have put her on this magnesium instead. Only been doing it a few days so not sure if it works as well yet but fingers crossed it does!
