does anybody know which calmer has magnesium aspratate in as i have been reading an article which says that this is the best one to put in a calmer as it absorbs better

at the moment i am using magnitude but this is magnesium oxide which is supposed to be the least absorbant according to this article

Is your current calmer effective for you?

Nupafeed's calmer apparently has pharmaceutical grade magensium and was highly recommended to me. However if a magnesium deficiency is not present then you may find a magensium calmer is not the best approach.

There are others with a wider range of nutrients such as B vitamins in addition to magnesium that may be more effective.

I found it was trial and error and what suits one horse may not be suited for another.

Can you post a link to the article? I'd be interested in reading it.

I don't use it as a calmer but I do feed a magnesium supplement called Mag-Restor which is pure chelated magnesium. Apparently the oxide in magnesium oxide can bind with calcium and remove the calcium from the system, causing a calcium deficiency.

I have not tried personally but have heard good reports of Equimins Serenity, Maxcalm and Brewers Yeast.

Good luck finding the one that works for you and your horse

I too would be interested in this article.

I have just stopped feeding my boy horse first relax me; he didn't like the taste of it and secondly after two weeks there was no difference in his behaviour! I wonder what type of magnesium is in it....... I will have a look at the ingredients!

i have emailed horse first to find out which magnesium is in it but they havent got back to me yet. The article i was reading was in the free Equi-Ads that you can get in tack shops and feed places it is the April adition
