Right, I'm wanting a pastern wrap for the ginger one and a pair of magnetic hock boots for my own lad, been looking at the various ones on the net/ebay and noticed the above ones come up quite cheap...well if you buy two lots I'd rather try not to spend quite as much as some of the magnetic boots that on the market, some being more expensive, but I also appreciate that you get what you pay for.

So just wondered if anyone had bought these and if they would recomend them/feed back etc.

Thanks

I have the fetlock wrap, got it thrown in as a job lot when I bought magnetic rug kit.

I have been using the equimagnets wrap on a horse who tweaked a fetlock. After cold bandaging for a couple of days he has been wearing the wrap, first session with it got rid of any remaining swelling.

I am very happy with mine, the other magnetic boots to have a look at are the Premier Equine ones which are currently half price in the sale at about £27, you can remove the magnetic liner and replace it with a normal liner (these are about £13) and then use as stable boots.

Thanks guys for your feedback

I have used a variety of magnets on my horses for a couple of years, and after seeing the difference they made I became an agent for equimagnets. I now use their rug packs and my mother who has an arthritic shoulder uses their shoulder wrap. She says she can feel the difference the next day, and has a wider range of motion in that arm.

Re the hock boots - these need to be fitted correctly otherwise they do slip. They have to quite tight but are stretchy as they are made from neoprene, they should only be used for a couple of hours max (I use mine for about 20-30 mins as the magnets are so concentrated) and are not suitable for use overnight. I would recommend the aeroborn magnetic hockboots overnight - they are made with the thermalux type material so very good in winter (when you would probably need the magnets more) and they magnets arent so concentrated so they arent as uncomfortable (my horse really does react to magnets over his hocks which is where he has OCD).

You need to be careful when first introducing the magnets. The horses do tend to sweat up quite a bit underneath them, and in summer it can be very uncomfortable.

If you are looking for a pastern wrap, I would really recommend magnetic bands instead (I get mine from a company based in Essex). These are made from webbing with little plastic fastenings which will snap if it is caught on anything. They can be worn 24/7 and I used to use them even when riding - these really made a difference for my boy.

Thanks CBAnglo some good food for thought there because:-

I’d like to try something around the pastern area for the big ginger one I have on loan, its for his sidebone which has no doubt been brought on by his box foot (he already had it when the owner bought him), so after looking into it a bit, I thought I’d give it a go so I’d like buy one, if doesn’t help then nothing lost…apart from a few notes, but if it does help then that’s great.

Also would like the hock boots for my own horse, he’s seems a bit stiff in his hocks/stifles specially first thing in the morning when turning out from the stable, so again I’d like to give them a go.

However they all go out 24/7 in about a months time, so its good to know what you can use and how long for, obviously this makes a difference as to what I buy. The hock boots would be ok for my lad as I’m down at the yard on weekends but no good during the week as I wouldn’t be there to remove them after 2 hours.

The magnetic band sounds perfect for the other as I could leave it on him during the day, hmmm its hard to know what to do for the best when they get turned out 24/7.

hmmmm *still ponders*

Mine wears the bands 24/7 in the field and they are fine. If it is muddy they will come off, but otherwise they are fine and dont rub my boy.

The thing about the magnets is that depending on how concentrated they are, the effects are felt along the whole body. for example, if you bought the bands for ginger one you could still use them on your boy for his hocks.

Dont want to worry you but has M had a very sudden growth spurt? its just that my boy shot up 2 inches in a couple of months when he was 4 and I strongly believe that was the cause for his OCD in his hocks. He started to be very stiff coming out of the stable when he was 5. It is very common with sudden growth spurts etc especially for hocks and stifles.

No he hasnt had a sudden growth spurt actually as that was my initial thought, he was turned away last year to mature/grow etc but he's not changed phyically in the slightest.

He's always been a bit lazy from behind...even from the day I got him which always concerned me, I had flexion tests done on him (to see if anything showed up, but the vet said he's sound just straight in hocks etc) but I'm not overly convinced, I think there is something going on in either his hocks or his pelvis region, he's had regular back checks and never anything serious, might had to go down the route of having some scans done, vet said he's just lazy but I'd rather rule everthing else out just in case, never been lame or anything but its just niggling me more than anything.

Hi CPanglo I have been reading your posts with interest and wondered if you could suggest something for my mare.

She is perfectly sound and no problems really but in the mornings (she is in a night and out in the day) her hind legs are slightly filled at the back of the fetlock. This goes down once she starts moving around and I wondered if magnets would help to stop this. She would have to wear them at night time so it would need to be something that can stay on all night.

Hope you can suggest something.

I bought one of the rug kits from equimagnets on ebay. I was really impressed with the magnets and literature that came with them.

I also have bioflow brushing boots and wraps. But if you are tempted to buy bioflow tendon wraps get the small ones unless you have a shire as they are big.

I have just been looking on e bay I googled magnetic therapy and there are packs of stick on magnets for 99p.

Does anyone know if they are the right magnets and also do they work. I was thinking of myself (shoulder) but could also be useful for the horse.

My arthritic boy is stiff in the mornings, but is much better if he wears his magnetic bands overnight (these are safe to be used 24/7) and I use stable boots (fal, thermatex etc) to keep his legs warm.

You can get several magnetic boots, but for me I prefer the flexibility of being able to use the magnets on the back legs independently of the stable boots, i.e. when its quite warm overnight I dont want his back legs overheating in magnetic boots.

PM me if you need any further info.
