We have a gorgeous working dog. She will be 6 in March. After a day's shooting she is getting quite stiff. She is absolutely fine a few days later. We have just put her on ymove ( sp) but just wondering if a magnetic rug or similar would be of benefit. She's also a pet so she's in the house, on a comfy bed on front of the fire!

I found rambo ionic stuff invaluable for my PSSM mare. I do not believe the hype, but it was the only time she laid down over night when she wore it, and she was much happier, so I dunno. It definitely keeps them warm while being lightweight. I've just bought my 8yr old whippet one a kramer version though, as his issues are in his neck and that one has the high neck collar.

She needs evaluation by a vet to find out what is causing the stiffness (pain).

If the cause is a chronic degenerative problem such as arthritis then she would most likely benefit from starting on a NSAID. For chronic pain NSAIDs are more effective if given continuously rather than given only when the owner thinks the dog is in pain. The sooner pain relief/anti inflammatories are started the better, to try to avoid the pain progressing to wind up/central sensitisation. You want avoid progression to wind up as long as you can.

How did you get on at the vets?

What did the vet feel was the cause of the stiffness?

Has she been started on any treatment?
We didn't take her as she was fine after a few days. She went out again Friday and has been fine so perhaps she had just pulled herself or bruised a pad? Will keep a close eye on her. I bought her a jacket to help with circulation etc. If nothing else she loves wearing it!
