Magnetic poll guards.

The only way to be certain is to ask them - but to be honest I'd be very surprised if they were. A quick google of the main manufacturers suggests they should not be used whilst ridden at all. Why do you want to compete in one?

Dressage phase of BE. There was an old thread on here that said they were BD legal. Off to check if they are mentioned in the rulebook. Why would they not be used when ridden? I thought that was the whole point?

I just googled them. The websites specify that they cannot be used on exercise, only for a horse with a calm regular heart rate. No idea why. They are not in the rule book for BE or BD - so not expressly permitted or disallowed.

What make were you considering?

I can't comment on magnetics but I have an Acavello gel poll guard which has made a real difference to my boy - so would recommend those if you're not set on a magenetic one.

Not sure what would suit. I have a very tense mare who won't keep her head still whilst schooling. ( Previous tooth issues). I saw a video of a headshaker where it proported to make a big difference, so just exploring options magnetic/ceramic/infra red. She already wears a comfort headpiece.

Back on Track (ceramic), do a poll guard and also what they call a head cover, both of which they advertise as being able to be used when working.

I think I know the video you speak of, that was a protechmasta one, they do a comp legal and other one. (not magnetic)

I have the protechmasta ones - both the narrow BD legal one and the wider one. Very happy with them as I have noticed my mare being much softer over her poll when wearing them. Got them rather than the magnetic poll guard as the magnetic ones are not to be used when being ridden.

HKM do an infrared one, it is cheaper than the protechmasta one and is dressage legal. HKM have been doing infrared for longer than masta but don't seem to market it very well.

Thanks for the replies, will check these out. This mare is very sensitive around the poll, and finds it hard to keep her head still and take a consistant contact.
