Magnetic Rugs for a sore back?

Just a question for you guys. My horse keeps getting a sore back, we have had vet, chiro and saddle fitter all out and they all do treatment (costing a lot in the last year) but find no reason for his soreness.

I know the lady that I bought him off was a "my saddle is comfortable to me so all my horses wear it regardless" person, and in my not very expert eye when we tested him out the saddle swung all over the place. The vet and chiro are in agreement that the soreness is probably due to years of a badly fitting tack and that in time it will get better.

We have done lots of walk work, working long and low etc to help build up his back, but I can't continue to have chiro or vet treatment every month.

So do you think a magnetic rug would work/help him?

Which one would you recommend (I know they can be anything upto £1000, but I couldnt pay more than £200ish)

I'm not expecting a magic wand and he is getting better but after a year of working on it I need to speed up the process if I can.

I bought the magnetic rug pack from Equimagnetics.co.uk and stuck them with glue into a very lightweight rug that my mare could wear travelling or at night. This pack was not expensive at all, have a look at the web site.

You will need to build up slowly using the magnets, dont put it on all night at first do an hour at a time and work up. Good luck and hope your boy gets better soon.
 
1MT - thank you, just had a look on their website and I'm spoilt for choice. I may just buy the packs to begin with and attach to a summer sheet. If it works I could always ask for a full rug as a birthday present and if it doesn't I won't feel like I've wasted my money.

I have the magnetic back pad from equilibrium which I find good, or one of the magnetic rugs from PE which I got cheap - both are often going cheap on ebay.
The other thing to think about may be an equilibrium back massage pad? I have had excellent results with that.

Yes, I also have a equilibrium massage pad bought from E bay for £120. It is brilliant and my mare wears it regularly.
 
So, please excuse my ignorance - what benefit does the massage pad give? this is not a "raised eyebrow, why do you waste your money question" - I ask because I am interested. I keep seeing them advertised, like the idea but am not sure of what value they give to the horse.
 
The massage pads run through a program of about 30 minutes which helps to relax the horses back muscles and take away any tension, you will probably find that your horse goes to sleep with it on. I put mine on for 15 minutes on medium before she works and 15 minutes on low after work. I find the horse a lot softer in the back when using this.

Also good for yourself if your back is stiff, just prop it up against the back on the sofa and lean back on it. They are very popular.
 
I don't have experience of the magnetic rugs although I have used magnet wraps etc in the past; however, you might also want to look at the Back on Track range - I use the BoT mesh sheet on my horses as a day sheet before exercise before clinics and shows and have found that they tend to be a bit more supple especially in the early morning after wearing it, I also use it as a day sheet at shows once they are cooled down and stabled - but I did make the mistake once of travelling my mare in it and she got way too warm, so it certainly warms up the muscles very effectively. They do do other types of rug which I haven't seen or tried.
