Hi guys,

Do they actually work and help circulation? My boy has a few back issues - slight muscle damage due to not being able to flex his right hind properly - physio came out and we've found the problem and he has been treated with laser... however to continue building his muscle and suppleness I do stretching exercises with him twice a day and also put a hot water bottle on his back to help improve circulation for when stretching... Would a magnetic rug help benefit him as well? Has anyone got any stories of an improved performance from their horse?

I swear by mine - both my horses loved/love it. I brought it originally for my old boy, who had back & muscular problems - and my physiotherapist was amazed at the difference it made to him. You could really tell when he hadn't worn it - his stride was much longer, looser and he was so much more willing to work, when he had worn it regularly. He used to wear it every day when stabled (but we had to build up to it slowly), as it benefited him so much. :)

The second horse, doesn't have any specific problems - but I use it as a preventative and because I think it must still help, especially after a particularly tiring lesson or ride.

I did borrow one though, before I brought one - just to make sure it would help, but it is definitely one of the best items I've brought. The Equilibrium version, was under £90 as well.

I don't know if the science behind it has any truth, but my boy loves his. I bought mine on the recommendation of my Bowen Therapist to help my boy with his muscle damage (caused by him tying up regularly)

When he's wearing it he goes all dopey and relaxed, and seems to love it!

Always used to travel my horses when eventing in mag rugs; they came off the lorry after hours of travelling much more freely and were easier to warm up than if they hadn't worn them. Similarly, they always wore them on the return journey and whilst they were always turned out upon getting home - even if only in the indoor - I think it helped minimize the effects of any stiffness.

The plug in type are also fab, albeit more expensive and probably only justifiable if you have a yard full of horses and/or are into rehab.

Also, whilst not for improving circulation, you may want to discuss the use of a TENS machine with your physio.

i bought a equilibrian massage pad (battery operated)that works really well and got a pad with magnets free it was on promotion the pad with the magnets its great you can position the magnets to the area you need to work on and leave on under stable rug overnight did wonders for our mare also bought a human massage roller from the body shop (its wood with like rollerballs on hand held) and used this also for about 20mins a day (10 mins each side ) the horses really love it

Thanks guys! My friend has one so i'm borrowing hers :) fingers crossed he keeps improving!

I'll be very interested to see how you get on. Ive been thinking of buying one for my ageing warmblood who has circulation problems with legs filling etc. I was just wondering whether this would help him. If it would I would spend the money on one. Ive been looking at the Armadillo rugs that start about £165.00 ish.

Maybe mag boots as opposed to a rug or even simple stable bandages if you haven't already tried them?? :)

I share one with my friend. We bought one of those equimagnet kits and I stitched them onto the rug along the spine from the neck down.

Its mainly been used on her 16yr old mare and she has been much more relaxed when ridden. She has it on for an hour every day and before and after being ridden.

I have ordered another one as I want to start using it on my mare at the same time. This time I've gone for the William Funnell one they are about £80.00

Re Armadillo their magnets aren't very strong, they don't penetrate very deep into the tissue.
