Magnets, do they work?

I'd be interested to know if you think magnets came make a difference to a horse with stiffness?

Vet says that they couldn't possibly work, but then she also said they were so weak that they didn't stick to other metal. Mine is very strong and definitely does stick to metal as my hoof pick can prove so she's wrong about that, could she be wrong about them not working as well?

i have had some great results with them. I used to travel one of my horses in a Magnetic blanket. He used to get very nervous going anywhere and would take ages warming up at a show. Since I used the blanket he travels like a dream and comes of the lorry lovely and loose

I have a magnetic back pad and magnetic leg wraps. I'm not sure about the leg wraps as haven't been using them long, but the back pad definately makes a difference. We used to use it on a cold backed horse and it meant we could get on without lunging him first!
I pull Hen's mane whilst he is wearing his back pad and he stands quietly instead of squashing me!

yes they do! apparently they aggravate the blood which stops the red blood cells from sticking together. this means that each blood cell has a greater surface area and can then absorb more oxygen - more oxygen to the body means quicker healing!! ooh i sound clever

Although there is lots of stories about relief from magnets, there isn't actually any proven scientific evidence for magnets, except for one study on polio victims.

I bought one for me at Blenheim, but I think I'll be sending it back as made no difference at all and some of the claims regarding asthma seem a little outlandish.

Very definitely!

I used to wear magnetic knee wraps overnight when my knees were bad and could go to bed in a lot of pain and wake up completely pain free.

T wears magnets on her hinds (currently building up usage/playing with our home made straps!) and there is a marked difference in her stiffness before and after using the magnets for an hour. Even after just being stood, tied up, with the magnets on, she moves a lot better after having had them on.

Have to go against the grain here.....theres absolutely no scientific evidence or provable theory to suggest that they do anything at all. The benefit can only come from the rug or boot they are attached to.

Yep have to agree no acutal evidence they work-sorry!

No scientific evidence to prove they work but a spaniel several red setters, an ex sj TB and two old horses here that would prove they do.

I was Sceptical.

However,I've used both the NEW brushing boots and more recently the Premier Equine Magnet-X stable wraps and I can 100% say that they've helped my horse.

Not sure if its the magnets or the boots but the result speak for themselves.

I have tried allsorts for my boy to help with his arthritis which he has had for 7 years. He has been particularly stiff after box rest from lammi. I was very sceptical about magnetic boots but given that i've tried most other things i thought it worth a shot. I bought equilibrium magna therapy stable wraps and put them on gradually building up to overnight. My boy was really stiff on his knee to the point where he was noticeably in pain when i tried to pick his feet out. He was also refusing to pick his back feet up altogether. He now picks up all 4 with no arguements and is happy to do so. He is marching out to the field and looks so much happier and more comfortable. My farrier was very positive about magnetic therapy and has noticed a big difference in the lack of stiffness compared to how he was when shoeing him. There may be no scientific evidence but in my experience they are working. Although maybe keeping his legs warmer may have helped slightly i dont believe that the boots without the magnets would have made this much difference. Every horse is different maybe some respond better than others but i've heard lots of good reports.
BTW Dolly is now eating her feed with the slimline, added a tiny bit of coolstance and she seems to have got over it, thanks for the message back. I thought it smelt quite nice fussy mare!!
