do magnets actually work or are they just hype? i was considering getting some boots for my horses lameness which is in his feet, but don't want to waste my money.

so any thoughts, opinions or storys welcome and you can pm if you prefer.

I haven't used them on a horse but I believe they work.
I have issues with my knees, so I bought a magnetic knee support, and as soon as one of my knees hurts I put it on and it really helps. The pain soon goes away. I just have to keep swapping knees because they are both bad.
Also I have used a magnetic collar on my arthritic dog and it seems to work on her too. After a while it stops working so we take it off for a few days, and when we put it back on it works again.

I have used bioflow ones in past for mare after op(after healed not if open wound/cut) and on box rest. They did help swelling in legs so do believe they work

I read in the horse mag last month about magnets boots, and they were saying that there has been no real proof that they work!!!! i have never used them so i can't say..... will dig out the magazine now

used last sumer in a horse that had thrown a splint and very lame in conjunction with box rest within 3 months horse sound and even i struggle to find the splint so anyone who didnt know where it was wouldn't know she'd had one

I have known very large splints to miracously dissapeared on there own after a short period of time without magnetic boots.Sorry

I used them on a belt for about 12 months as I had lower back pain and after any competition or lesson jumping, I`d have to have a couple of days off myself as I was so stiff and sore but the magnets helped me loads. So much so that when my horse suffered with a bad back I bought her the magnetic rug and now I have a magnetic pastern wrap which I have only just bought and a magnetic back pad which I use for travelling to a show to warm up the muscles. My weimerana also wears a collar with magnets on.

So yes I guess you could say that I am a believer. Especially as I use them myself.
Oh I almost forgot, I also wear a metal bracelet with magnets in.

all the time.

logically the magnets affect the blood flow as the blood is full of iron (haemoglobin in the red blood cells). Speeding up the blood flow will accelerate healing as oxygen and other molecules involved in the healing process are transported by blood. I do use a magnetic wrist band myself with an open mind but I have found that it needs taking off for a few hours a day (i.e. less benefit if used 24/7). I still remain open minded but I feel that there are probably some benefits to be had.

Would definatley recommend them. Have used the NEW magnetic boots and Armidillo wrap (used it for horse's back) and definately found that they made a huge difference. Essentially they speed up blood flow and encourage the removal of dead/infected tissue so don't work miracles but i have found them to be highly successful and would recommend them to anyone. Remember, animals can't be fooled by the placebo effect so if it works on them then it really works!

The benefits are due to the placebo effect, you are seeing what you want to see!

Iron in the haemoglobin molecule is in a non magnetic ionic form, so no possible effect on that count! ...and if you use a little common sense, even if the iron was effected by magnetic forces the blood flow OUT of the area would be effected the same as inflow, ending with a nett zero effect, blood just pooling in the area.

Every properly conducted study has shown absolutely no effect.

The bit that ammusses me is the same folks who think magnets are wonderful are often the same folks who think the magnetic fields from power lines are dangerous!
Make up your mind folks, can't have it both ways!

Spend your money on proven therapies and do some real good for your horse!

my plan was to buy some sort of boot have decided which type or make yet and leave them on him overnight, so they would have to be able to stay on for at least 14 hours (goes to bed at 6 turned out about 7/8ish) so the main idea is they do work, well just got to figure out which make and type

My old vet (now sadly retired) was probably the most sceptical person I know. I asked him about magnets once and his response was that whilst he couldn't find any scentific reason why they should work he had seen far to many cases that indicated they did to dismiss them.

my horse got a kick on his hock once that wouldn't heal. i put magnet boots on over night and it clotted nicely which seemed a hell of a coincidence to me. i find they really help to stop my TB's legs swelling. i'm pretty convinced but don't think they do any harm if not any good!

A lot of rubbish is talked about them and my evidence is that they kept my horses legs from filling when stabled and on box rest and for myself I get excrutiating tennis elbow and I mean excruciating and my bioflow magnetic bracelet is the only thing that has ever really helped.
