Hello

Have been advised by Physio to use Magnitude to "loosen up" my horse who has a few mechanical issues from old injury.

Horse works well but is a little stiff but very eager to please.

Has anyone got any expericences of using magnitude for this only, am not bothered about a calmer, I like my horse lively but am also worried it might calm him too much.

I am off to buy some now but would be very happy for any info on sucess, timescales, other effects etc.

Thanks

yes, magnesium is actually a muscle relaxant, horses that usually need calming are tense horses who are magnesium defiant. using any magnesium based supplement will help with muscle problems. but read the labels to see which is best as most contain alot of fillers and little magnesium.

A very interesting post. My mare is on magnitude because she tied up in September 2008 and again in February 2009 - I put her on it to calm her and keep stress levels down and she hasn't tied up since being on it (plus other supplements) and i didn't know about the muscle relaxant bit! It must be working then.

Also interesting re the Obesity/Lami risk reduction! My Fell mare is on it after recieving treatment for Spavin. It seemed as thouh her temp changed during treatment which I put down to the chemicals imbalancing her natural hormone and chemical balance. Its amazing what things can be used for!

Well I didn't know it was used to relax muscles, just thought it was a behaviour calmer.
Makes sense that one would follow the other really . . . . stupid me
