just wondered what peoples personal experiences with this kind of therapy were, eg i have a horse that has small windgalls would he benefit?????

It's got a scientific base in that blood contains iron and iron is affected by magnetic forces. I'd be wary of extravagent promises though. Very wary. Some years back I had a horse with terrible bilateral djd and navicular syndrome. Desperately looking for a way to avoid euthanasia, I spoke to a local rep of a firm that sold expensive magno therapy rugs, wraps, boots to see if they would help. To be fair, when I had explained the problem she was very honest and very compassionate and she said for minor things and for prevention, they're fine but they wouldn't have helped my boy at all.

I use bioflow boots. Bioflow say the following: "How Magnotherapy Works - Our Theory:
The Medical profession accepts and supports the use of electrically generated pulsed magnetic fields to help relieve pain. Bioflow mimics these through its static magnetic field known as "Central Reverse Polarity ". It is completely safe and does not require electrical power. As blood passes through the field it is subjected to a magnetic pulsing effect which we believe helps the body maintain a balanced pH (the information base of pain) and maintain good conductivity in the cells (essential for good health)."

Basically the magnetic pulsing effect increases blood flow to the area which in turn promotes warmth and a healing effect, which also will reduce any swelling. It certainly helps my horse with his windgalls (he has massive ones on his hind fetlocks both sides). Of course it could argued that that is the effect of just having boots anyway but they they don't provide that much support so I am convinced that its due to the magnets that they work well. I also have a magnetic rug that I use on my horse every now and again. Magnets should never be used in a pregnant horse, over an open cut/sore or if the subject has metal plates/pins in its body.

When i first started using the boots with a previous horse he was approx four tenths lame having received a kick to his leg and had been for a few days. Within 12 hours of having the boots on he went from four tenths lame to one tenth despite not having painkillers. Think that speaks for itself. However the bioflow collar I bought for my arthritic dog did nothing for her at all!

Sorry but IME there is absolutely nothing concrete that proves magnets work on horses. I have a pile of CRP magnets here (like the ones BioFlow use along with others) and if I cannot get one to effect anything through a sheet of paper Im b*ggered if its going to penetrate through a horses hide let alone do anything useful to the blood flow. The reason the boots 'seem' to work is IME purely down to the fact that they are slightly warming the area they are applied to. Oh and dont be impressed by terms like 'rare earth magnet' either....they arent rare and they dont work!

i use a magnetic collar on my old spangle who has arthritis - he is def more sprightly in the mornings after he has had it on compared to when i forget to put it on.... so make of that what you will ;)

My mum suffers from a bad back and swears by her magnet back wrap. It warms her back and relaxes the muscles. It isn't fixing her back but it does make life easier for her.

Google Magnet Therapy. There is plenty of research that indicates that correct application of magnet therapy increases blood flow at the site of injuries. One site has 300 studies listed and many of those are clinical trials with placebos to compare against. I have a friend whose broken (smashed) leg was in an external brace bolted through her shin for a year until she used magnets on it, when to the amazement of her surgeon, it healed.

i love my magnetic back support. it makes my back very very warm and i certainly feel stiffer when iv not worn it.
i use magnetic over reach boots on my tb who has navicular and his feet are very warm after a few hours with them on but its still early days yet. im going to invest in a rug. some people swear by them for athiritus in horses and humans.
