We've had several cases of magots discovered in geldings sheaths at our yard this week.. just thought others might like to be made aware so that the necesary checks can be made - poor boys!
flys lay their eggs.. they hatch and hey presto! just been a bit of a year for it according to my vet who I was talking to about something else this morning.
Just regular cleaning and keeping an eye on it now..
My old boy got maggots in his sheath. He had melanomas in it and it was really hard to get clean. I used to have to wash it with warm water and put Battles Fly Cream all over in the Summer so he had a yellow sheath. He used to love having it cleaned and would stand on three legs and lift one back one up to make it easier - perv!
Ha ha ha, thats what my horse does, he even backs into me and cocks a hind leg when he wants a 'scratch'. He loves the battles yellow fly cream, it highlights his anatomy!
