Mainly day dreaming but does anyone breed these any more?

No idea for a good stallion to use, but popped on to say I did my first one day event on a beautiful, old fashioned Anglo Arab and she was an absolute darling - she floated for the dressage, and then absolutely stormed the cross country and showjumping x

I remember getting off, giving her a massive cuddle (and feeding her about 1kg in polo mints and apples!), saying to her owner that she was an amazing horse and we need to make her immortal 🥰

She had a really long posh name that I can't for the life of me remember, but her stable name was Dreamer - she had the most beautiful palomino coat and she shone like a diamond after a good grooming session - I still remember the gasps of people as I rode past them.....x

My horse of a lifetime was an Anglo Arab,by a well known Arabian out of a tb mare. He would do anything for you. Even my much loved purebred Arabs, who were way more 'sensible' to ride, could replace him as my heart horse.

The Arab comet is renowned as a great example, if you can get some of his bloodlines, lady Anne lytton bought a colt, grojec, by him for crabbet when she wanted new blood, I saw some of his colts, very sturdy great movers

I have an an older stallion with comet, he is the same colour as comet heavily fleabitten grey, so nearly chestnut, but mine is pre x tb x arab, 15 . 2hh ish and has a son 16. 2hh so look carefully at the size of grandparents, my stallions sire was 16.2hh

And at 25 years young he is a better horse than when he was 4 years old, he was accused of being tres chic by the French, but now he is just plain wonderful, I think!

I know its not fashionable, pba, but I think it's the best horse of all for many reasons, or perhaps a well kept secret

I believe one the above mentioned stallions tested positive for, I think , it was lavender foal syndrome

I've never met this stallion, but i fell in love with his profile - Dhay

Old English and Crabbet bloodlines and the right colour for you. I wish more Arabs were being bred like this.

I completely agree - partbred Arabs are the absolute best! Mine are just wonderful.

He's lovely! I just couldn't seem to see where he'd gone since 2023.

Have a look at that book about Arabs by Peter upton, he's an artist, it's the story about lady Anne and Wilfred scawen blunt travelling the desert buying horses for crabbet arabians

It gives all the pedigrees a long way back with paintings by Peter that really show type so it's possible to see through the generations which horses are dominant by type,up to recent times, and has actual photos of some of the early imported horses , one of my favourites the grey skowronek, i think he came from poland though, is a mim type and mirage also a grey, but the chestnut mesaoud is typey

It's called the Arab horse, by Peter Upton its a complete record of the Arab horses imported into Britain from the desert of Arabia from the 1830s

Oh fascinating! I'll look into it. I started to make as much of a visual family tree as I could for Mim at one point, and found photos of as many of her ancestors as possible. These are some of the Arabs. She also has some British Riding Pony breeding and some thoroughbred but she's 80.3% Arab so there are a lot of different Arab lines to look up. I should complete it one day!

Back in the 70's I used a chestnut Anglo-arab called Ombre Solaire. He was by the bay show jumping arab, Hassani of Fairfield and out of a TB mare. He went arab racing as a mature horse, did ok but at 8 a bit old to start. If he was still around he would have suited you. I had some lovely foals from him, always liked Anglos.

Many years ago I spent a weekend where Hassani was and I rode him , he was a really good natured stallion and an easy ride, and I did try to get my lightweight cob in foal but it didn’t work and I decided not to re try .,

Good Anglo Arab stallions really are like hen's teeth these days. It doesn't help you , LG, but if anyone is looking for a future stallion to stand at stud, I currently have an 8 month old Anglo colt with excellent lines. He's just too good to geld but I'm not longer breeding. If anyone is interested please do PM.

LG, If you're open to buying rather than breeding I did see this little high percentage Arab girl for sale and she definitely goes with your pony colour scheme 😁.

He is beautiful, really striking and his build is perfect, but his conformation isnt the best. Theres quite a few things that would make him a hard no for breeding. Which is a shame as hes clearly well bred and a nice type, but wouldnt be one I'd use.

She's very very cute! But I would only be breeding to keep a Mim line with us for the rest of our lives.

I'd be very interested in how your colt is bred though, for general information (I'm not a future stallion owner) and what you looked for, how you chose lines etc?
