Ive done a search for "main elec fence" but nothing answers my question... the cost of running. Ive had battery run fences before but one of mine insists in trundling through it as and when the grass looks greener , so I think I need something with a little more kick ! Mains or solar ? I dont want to get one , as they are not cheap , then find it costs a small fortune to run. If anyone knows how to work out costing (in simple terms) that would be helpful , or just a ball park figure for the cost to run. Thank you

I did some research on this a few years ago but I have no scientific authorities to confirm that it is correct!

One way is to multiply the length of time of the pulse (milliseconds?) by the number of pulses in a year times the wattage and the price per watt.... When you have finished beating your head against the wall trying to work that out, there is a more logical approach!

The mains unit is continually powered so it charges up a couple of large capacitors which are discharged periodically down the fence line as an electric pulse that causes the shock (to put it simply). I have a fairly powerful unit but it is rated at only 10 watts. So the cost is going to be the same as the cost of continually running a 10w light bulb.

In other words, peanuts! Don't worry about it.

Thanks , so anything that is run off the mains should do majority of distances ? Im planning on only running it thru the middle tape/rope/wire ( I have 3 rows , top , middle and bottom) and its not all the way around the field , its really just one side that needs it . And it will only be on when the horses are in the field , so it should be cheap enough to run .
