Having posted the other wk about trying to keep my boy in; He has got out of everything tried, one day he jumped the electric fence, then the hedge and then the barbed wire and pig wire the other side, amazingly without a scratch!!
I am now looking to get a mains electric fencer to try and keep him in, anyone use them and recommend me a fairly cheap but reasonable one?

Please before my uncle shoots the poor horsey!!! (joke although I'm not sure his temper will hold out much longer  )

Thank you!!!

Get one that says it will contain goats! My Gallagher is still going strong after 30 years.

If your horse is rugged tack a piece of tape around the chest and under the rug edge so the shock still connects - it could be worth trying this before buying another energiser though?

if he is a serial escaper and is rugged then not much will stop him. once you know your fence is fully powered i would take his rug off, make his chest and neck wet so he gets a good zap and learns to respect the fence. then rerug. you might have to repeat this exercise a couple of times til he gets the message. the serial escapers are hard to contain unless they get the message several times. they also cost a lot in time to mend said fence, and general hassle so it is time well spent. now i will get shot down for cruelty!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about mains fencers but I've had three Fenceman battery energisers and each has failed between 15 and 18 months old. My Wolseley Midge is 15 years old and still fine.

use mains electric charge, buy a fence tester, use it to ensure the fence is running at the recommended voltage, i think mine is 5,000 take horse up to it make sure he touches it or you touch him with it, to save him from accidents, and make sue the earth rod is 1 metre away from the charger and well in the solid ground, and remember to put a bucket of water on the earth rod at least once a week. i would not leave him out on his own until he respects the fence

Thanks for all ur help! I will be having a look for all mentioned :-)
