I’m moving to a new yard (yay!) where there is mains electricity so planning on installing a mains energiser (seems senseless to keep buying/ carting/ charging batteries)

Please recommend mains energisers. Also any tips for setting up would be welcomed. I’m seeing ones online that profess to be weather proof, though I’m thinking it would be better to be housed somehow?

The field surrounds the school in a horse-shoe shape so the plan is to run a rope round the external perimeter of the school that temporary fences (tape and poly posts) can be attached to as and where we need (owner would prefer to keep the grazing as one lot for ease of harrowing and rolling rather than fence into smaller sections).

I have an electric shepherd in my garage that does all my fields (7 acres). I've had it since 1994 and never had an issue. I wouldn't leave one out in all weathers. It goes out of the garage to a central point and I can electrify the whole lot or just certain paddocks.

I can also recommend this one. We had one of these when we were farming and it did most of our farm. I am still using the battery version which is now over 30yrs old and still going strong.

Keep the energiser inside and use a very big grounding rod… and a good runout cable. we sink wires in pipes under gates to run wire through and that works well. webought the biggest energiser we could find on the what will do a lot will do a little. It’s quite powerful and does several miles so probably most people don’t need to use something that strong. I think generally as long as you go Rutland or Gallagher or another decent make you will be fine.

We have a slightly older version of this: https://www.electric-fence.co.uk/vo...mains-energiser-for-medium-length-fences.html
States 15k clear fence line, 7km over grown. Our fence is positively evil!!!!!!!
Have aboout 2km and whilst wedo manage vegetation, we do it periodiaclly not obsesively.
We get about 8kv with a pretty messy fence line.
Talk to Voss, they are really helpful.
The energiser is protected from weather in a wooden box

They don’t make mine anymore, but a newer model. Mine is a Horizont. I also had a Hotline Gemini which was fine for the horses. I’d say get the most powerful one you can afford then you won’t need to worry about things touching it. Mine is in the barn with the wires coming out the side. The earth rod should be 1m with most of it in the ground. You can then use lead out wire to get the current where you need it. Mine goes all round my fields and is quite a complex arrangement of lead out wire, tape for the horses and also netting.

Mains is far easier than batteries. It’s just easier to make it work well.
