My stable block has been up two years now, and I would like to treat the outside with creosote substitute. I have seen an advert on TV with some guy spraying fence panels - has anyone used something like this for stables ? Can anyone recommend something that will spray them without getting blocked up ? I cant face using a brush, it will take forever

Thanks

The only thing that you can spray on is water based and it doesnt last 5 mins.
Hubby has just done all mine in a creosote substitute applied with a heavy duty fence panel brush with long bristles from B & Q - they are under a fiver.
It doesnt splash and is quite quick. If you are not careful it goes everywhere and stains the concrete on the yard, windows and the smell sticks for ever if you get it where it shouldnt be.
Happy painting!

Same as Holly says! It's very therapeutic once you get started! To stop the concrete staining, use some feed bags on the floor and move them as you go, also don't overload your brush as it will only drop everywhere.

OK, looks like I will have to get stuck in then, thanks for the tips - unless of course hollyf you fancy hiring out your hubby

Lol, no he was a bit grumpy to be doing them. He built them for me and the agreement was that I painted them. I managed to persuade him that it was not a job for girlies as we need to smell of fluffy things and not creosote!
Think he realises that he has been conned!

Just finished doing mine with Cuprinol Heritage Shades "Somerset Green". Had to do mine as part of the planning permission and submit colour for approval! I agree that once you get into it its quite theraputic

I've just started doing mine with Cuprinol stuff for the 1st time and have to say I will never go back to stinky horrible creasote substitute!! It doesn't smell, is pet friendly and washes off easily (which is just as well cos I looked like the Incredable Hulk with all my gren bits!!) Have to say I agree about not using a sprayer, it's too thin and doesn't last very long. I've got a big wallpaper paste type brush and it's not taking too long, I did 4 x 12 ft sections in about an hour, only 8 to go!!
