I just met up with a friend who I haven't seen for 20 years tonight and we got to reminiscing about all the horses we had met and what we used to get up to.

Our riding holiday was one of the subjects - we went to Maisemore Equestrian centre which was owned by the Bubbs. Sally Bubb ran the centre - the first year I went I rode Woody for the week - a lovely dappled grey pony, and the second time I went, I rode a bay, whose name I cannot remember.

Does anyone remember this place? Did you go on holiday there in the late 70's/early 80's?

My friend bought a little chesnut pony called Quincey from there when it closed down. We didn't ride there regularly but our riding club occasionally went there for lessons.

I went there for a week's holiday with my own pony in 1974 was a lovely place really well run we had plenty of instruction every day and lots of fun in between unfortunately I got a severe ear infection from swimming and had to go home a day early

I went on holiday there twice, would have been mid 70's I think

OMG yeah i learnt to ride there too:) My parents used to drop me off on a saturday morning for a lesson then i use to help out with the horse's and tack cleaning fond memories of it but it was over 30 years ago:eek:

Wow, this has taken me back, I went for a weeks riding holiday when I was about 11 years old in 1986/7. I think the ponies name was Barney? He was a sweet little pony- bay, with a wonky white blaze....every morning we had eggy bread for breakfast! I cried when my parents dropped me off, as it was my first time away on my own ... I cried even more when they picked me up and my hol was over!

Blimey thats a blast from the past! I went too for a 2 week holiday in the late 70's. I rode a grey horse, cant remember what it was called but remember jumping cross country fences for the first time in my life! also remember all the wellies in the kitchen, the pool, the barn where they were all tied up for us to groom and tack up, the indoor school and the excitement and terror of the end of week exam and competition!

I went there for riding holidays, I loved it! I remember going out on the cross country course. I think the pony I rode was call Socks? Still have a picture of us somewhere......

I also had holidays at the Playmate Riding school, we stayed in caravans in one of the fields. We were taken to a local show to watch, all of us sat in the back of a horsebox. My Mum said the smell of horse nearly knocked her of her feet when she opened my suitcase when I came home!

I went in the many times in the 80s with a friend for a week in the summer. I first time we went we were very young and rode two small naughty grays one was called Blue I think. Subsequently we took our own ponies. We had the most amazing times there- I remember being told off by mr bubb for swimming under the pool liner for a dare. The fun rides, the tuck shop, trying to remember the dressage test for the end of week competition, having to clean tack, the dorms.....the list is endless if anyone knows of a simular set up that I could send my 11 year old daughter please let me know.

Where the original stables and yard was, is now a small housing estate.

I remember competing there in the mid 80s in the fields at the back, where the xc course ran down to the river Severn

The stables are behind the houses still. The indoor school is still there too. The yard is still owned by the Bubbs but rented out to another couple.

The yard is still where it was, the fields still have some of the old xc jumps in them but they are unused now. The Bubbs still own it but rent it out to another couple. The indoor school and main stable block are the same as far as I know.

I went there in 1970s on riding holidays..I absolutely loved it!
Me too, I was one of a very few boys who had riding holidays there, I went in the early 70s as a teenager each summer for a week. The names of ponies I rode were Estelle (bay) and Seagull (grey) and there was a third whose name I’ve forgotten, but he was newly trained, unspoiled and a real pleasure to ride (unlike Seagull which was virtually uncontrollable ?).

Hi guys, I have this photo of my dad, Mike Tytherleigh and its got Maisemore Equestrian Centre scribbled on the bottom left corner of it. I bumped into a lady years ago that said he was a riding instructor there for a time. Just wondered if anyone remembers him or the horse?

My mum dropped off a box of childhood rosettes a few months ago when they were clearing out their attic.

I knew Maisemore rang a bell. I got dropped off there for a week when I was 12 I think while they were moving house.

Because I was organised I've just gone and found the rosettes and I've written the pony names on the back too.

There is 5th in combined training on Sam (I remember him - very nice 13h bay gelding). A first in chase me charlie on Holly (no idea- sorry Holly!) and a first in the gymkhana which made me laugh because I was useless at gymkhana games.

I was planning on throwing them all away but looking through all those rosettes has brought back a tonne of memories so I think they'll just end up in my attic now :D

Yes I competed there a couple of times. Have a Maisemore rosette or two in the attic.

Emma. Just seen the photo you posted of your farther. I was at Maisemore 1965 1966and 67. There on holiday Michael was the main man. Taught me a great deal. I remember some of the girls names who helped there. Tina. Glenys Garner. Jo and Linda. They were good times.

Great to find the original post on this feed. I drove to Maisemore in the last few years, looking for the equestrian centre and couldn’t find it. I wondered what had become of the place where I stayed for 2 riding holidays in the late 1970’s. I rode Cornflake, a small dun pony and then a beautiful grey called Emma. I loved my holidays there, the horses, all the instruction, the tests at the end of each week and cleaning our tack at the end of the day. There was structure to our days, but we also had fun. I’ll have to dig out my photos some time as I have one of the instructors…perhaps some of you will remember their names?
