After some tricky few months and a lot of hard work i now feel i know my youngster well enough to hack her on her own now,i know that sounds very straight forward and not a big deal but this is the kind of horse that is a serial spooker/very sharp in company ( although not always) let alone on a hack without a buddy!!!! i went up the road on my own the other day but there were horses a far bit behind her and she was good so i decided to bite the bullet and go on a decent hack (hour and a half) it was quite windy and yes we did meet every hazard possible but apart from nearly jumping on a tractor it went ok and i was very proud of her,she is a true skitty mare and much to my disappointment i did have to get off to go past some blue piping sticking out of the ground but to be fair it was very scary and she was a good girl when i tried to get back on again (she doesn't do standing for you to get on that well!!!)
Anyway i've done riding on the roads now it's just going in open spaces i've got to conker as she generally decides to just f&ck off with you when the fancy takes her! not helpful if you are on your own.Any tips!!??? I try to get her in a rytham and i find trotting her works best as she likes to 'crack' on but she spooks when you least expect it and with no warning and thats when she takes off-when you become slightly unbalanced by the spook-clever mare!!!

Anyway some recent picks of the cheeky girl-butter woudn't melt.

However please dont get off again,at no matter what,i did that once and i nearly lost my arm he pulled back that hard, was lucky i hung onto him(my arm hurt soo much for 3 days as i had to hang on to him soo tight),YOU will find a way to get past anything even if it takes an hour, lol, did me and never had a prob after that!

problem was i had 2 tractors trying to overtake me and i was passing a busy stud with horses galloping the other side of the fence,i caused a major traffic jam and there was a grass verge i had to get her on but she would not go near it,i kept asking but she kept trying to rear so i just popped off till everyone went past then got on again and made her go up the verge with me on her pass the scary piping. It's the first time i've EVER got off a horse on the road from a safety point of view but because she iS so good if your on the ground i couldn't risk it at the time, she would of reared and knowing her falling on the road,it was an accident waiting to happen, everything came at once along the very quite road thats it is usually, typical!

Soooo typical

,just what you dont need!!!Can see your point with the safety thing!Such a shame you had stud horses galloping up and down fence as distracting them from others is very difficult!!!
Sound like you are doing well with her though and if you carry on along the lines you are you should be onto a winner

you know your girl better than most and you can get all the advice in the world but only you will know how to go on with heras you know her,had that with my lad, looked for advice then sat and thought and worked him out, lol,it does work!!

best thing you can do is teach her shoulder in etc and put it into effect well before the object, she is obviously not the sort you can fall asleep hacking on so make her work,be on the guard for what she may spook at and get her bending doing shoulder in etc before she has seen it!i wear spurs when i am hacking out as if he spooks he jumps away from the spur,my lad knows when i am not wearing them out and will have a field day,i wear them as a safety aspect as he will jump away from them, rather than into traffic!
