Many of you will have heard me whining on about what a crap rider I am (true, I am no threat to Carl hester just yet!) And how I have no riding confidence, well the silly thing is I can hack, I am very happy hacker!! We have been hacking out with me on Moses and my friend on Alfie getting Alf used to the sights and sounds and teaching him to canter in the XC fields. Well I have been having a play in the huge open fields doing some lovely canters and some medium trots and today - wait for it - WE DID A JUMP!!!! Only a tiny log, but M was fab, really looked after me!! I am SO, SO chuffed.

I am sure my problems lie in the fact I am extremely claustrophobic in an arena, I'm not sure why but I just feel like I have nowhere to go and the walls/fences are to darn close!
I am going to have some lessons in our lovely grass school (big open space) and see how things go from there! I am now half way there - I have identified my problem!

It doesn't surprise me that you enjoy hacking.it's a more relaxed (usually) way of riding or at least one where you are not trying to achieve some holy grail of outline, lightness, correct position etc...to be honest sometimes i feel I'm going to tell my instructor to p*** off if she tells me once more to 'flick my pelvis' when rising!
Sounds like you are making great progress and most importantly..enjoying it. :)

That's great - well done. And you are obviously a much better rider than you think - you are certainly braver than a lot of so called "experienced" riders who may be brave in the confines of a small sand school, but go all nervous in a big open field :)
