Major hoof boot woes

Thank you so much everyone, will try to reply to all the points!

I am currently using the easy care comfort pads, I bought the 6mm soft ones initially as I did actually try them in the front renegades and thought 6mm would be my best bet for not altering fit. However they must have done as the front boots which previously stayed totally straight twisted.

Trimmer recommended using 12mm medium density easy care pads (and gaiters) in the front cavallos and whatever boot I end up with on the backs. So I have bought those but not tried them yet, I will do at the weekend.

Have ended up ordering the new trails on hire for her backs, I looked at the back country boots and the epics but the dimensions weren't right. The trail is as close to a perfect size in the size 2's as I'll get for her hinds. Also as they're a similar style to the cavallos which don't twist I'm hoping the trails won't either but will be more comfortable and hopefully won't alter her gait so much. We'll see!!

Scoot boots - when I was hiring fit kits for the renegade vipers, Liz also sent fit kits for the scoot boots which were basically just the whole boots. Because she has small feet, the front parts sat too high up - they were on her coronet bands. And the heel arches were way too big and dug into her pasterns higher up than they should have been sitting. Just not right for her at all unfortunately.

I do definitely see the point in persevering and that is what I want to do so will keep going for now, praying the trails work ok!

Just read the laminitis from barefoot thread and am terrified now...

ps. have I also mentioned I have no money now?

I would think a lot before using the runners, every horse in their videos strides short, the break over is horrible in all directions and that is before we start on the attachment mechanism. I would shoe before I used them from the evidence provided so far.

very interesting...a shame too as they seemed a good concept :(

I really would not let that thread put you off. Read the navicular thread to rebalance how you feel!

I've come up with a fairly smooth route if I take a detour through a wood (i.e. find my own path and he's quite tall!) and get off and on to open a gate both ways (Did I mention he's huge!) which leads to grass tracks which could entertain us for a good couple of hours so I'm going to give that a go this afternoon and see how we get on. Field almost rideable in today but it won't take any rain to become disasterous again.
