Her hind right leg is swollon and nearlly red with soreness, She isnt lame but i havnt been riding her. And she has been brought in over the few days, Would turnout boots during her grazing hours work? then stable bandanging her legs in the stable help? help please

Sorry lol, I would be inclined to keep her out of the field til it not swollen then use a barrier cream on her legs, I would put stable bandages on her legs clean and dry in stable, bloody weather is awful and it is July! you expect to maybe have to deal with it in winter but not in July!!

yeah im thinking about buying special turnout boots? as the keep theyre legs dry and go all the way near the coronet ( sorry if its spelt wrong! ) band. and then over night putting stable bandages on? do you know any good makes of turnout boots?

Well i bet your horse is a typical tb, i recon you are doing a great job of bringing her in to let her legs dry out. Turn out boots are a great idea and the banaging is extra help of dring them out. i have a tough fizzy cob so we don't really have these problems < as you may know because i am in your field lmao

dont put turnout boots on whilst swollen(as movement in the field will cause swelling to distribute so boot will come loose) unless they are the stretchy type. i personally wouldnt put boots on over any infection. i would keep him out of the wet until it starts to heal, then i would apply barrier cream such as vaseline or udder cream! if you do put him out dont wash the mud off-wait til it dries then brush it off. constant washing will worsen it! had to battle with it over the winter.applying vaseline to mine and fingers crossed looking good so far!

forgot to add, vet told me to walk the horse til the swelling goes down a bit then apply stable bandages-so it supports the leg and prevents the swelling getting bigger-and to stbale keep him til it starts to heal but make sure he gets plenty of time walking-in hand or horse walker!

I have a TB who has dust fever if there isn't any mud and mud fever when there is (very sensitive girl) we work round her legs getting one sorted only for another to flare up. She can't use the turn out wraps as she is allergic to neoprene (of course) and they all have it.

I used to trusted Dermobian cream until they discontinued it and then went on the Flamazine which was OK - now using Fuciderm which seems to be doing the trick. She lives out (as she also has navicular and should be kept moving) so once a day she comes in - we wash the area with hibiscrub, leave on for 10 mins, wash off (gently removing scabs) and dry throughly before appying the Fuciderm - a total palaver but it is the only thing I have found works (the trouble with vaseline etc is that the area never gets to breathe or get the cream to work...
If it is really bad then of course antibiotics.
Fun eh? especially in July....
