Been team chasing today and a friends horse died afterwards.

They weren't going mega fast and the ground was good - he finished full of running.

It has totally made me think about TCing again, but then is it any different to XC or hunting?? I've worried about my horse getting injured but never thought it might die!!

thoughts go out to your friend, its something we always hope will never happen. Im happy Eventing but i would never go TCing, just always seems more high speed and dangerous for some reason!

I am TCing next weekend. However my team is made up of very sensible people and we won't be going much faster than a good xc pace.
It is terrible and thoughts with your friend. If you don't mind me asking, how?

i've done one team chase, ever. i saw 4 horses die that day. never again. i don't know why, but it does seem to take a huge toll.

It does - but I'm not sure why?? This course especially seems to have a high casualty rate.

they were going no faster than normal event pace though and the ground was good. We did the same class last year and it was a slog in the mud - in which case would be understandable?

I'm seriously considering if I want to TC again though, I love it and so does Badger but I'd be devastated if that happened to him.

But then we have always team chases and never lost a horse - but lost one in an RTA - so do you not hack on the roads??

It's so hard.

Honestly - my friend is one of the most sensible riders I know!! I'd say they were going about PN speed - not fast at all!

nothing happened really he just died when they were walking round at the end.

he looks oldish though... Think maybe his time was up?

TC is a grade higher on insurance along with advanced eventers and pointers. Think that says it all. To team chase the old boy I had to spend an extra £15 on top to get him covered for the day.
I love TC but rarely have a suitable horse who I am willing to take the risk on. The old boy I have looks after himself but is the slowest horse in the world!

I feel bad for taking my horse round there last year now - it was longer and TERRIBLY deep ground.

It just shows that you can never tell. Eric looked amazing and finished a lot better than most horses in the intermediate/open, BUT he is not used to team chasing or hunting - maybe the "buzz" was a bit much for him??

horrible day.

So sad ,I bet she was in bits but I bet she got alot of help as hunting people know what to do.

He went so quick but they were so good. They came to cover him up in immediately and he went to the vets for a postmortem - think they wanted to know what had gone wrong.
