making a horse go faster?

if she trots faster when you ask for canter, slow back to a normal trot instead of making her go faster and faster. hold her up together more too before you ask, and sit really deep in the saddle

If you mean how do you get her to canter rather than just running on in the trot then i would try several different things

walk to canter transitions, exaggerate the aids to make it clear to her what you want her to do

does she jump? Most horses will land in canter after a jump and you could try it to get her used to the pace

try giving a substantial half halt as you give the aids to canter. You need to be making it clear to her that you don't want her to go faster, that its a different pace you want.

Its difficult to say one thing that would definitely work without seeing you and her. Do you have any videos of you riding her?

I used to work at a RS which bought a hackney at the age of ten who had never been broken to ride. At first she would just do a really fast trot but she did learn to do a nice canter eventually, just took some reprogramming as she wasn't used to it.

Her explosive action in the trot meant that she had a heck of a jump on her. She took me over the highest I have ever jumped 4ft 6, not a mean feat for a 15hh RS horse

thanks deadpan will try that!

no i want her to canter lol.

she just won't do walk to canter lol. A lot of the time, she jogs anyway, rather than walks.
I will try the half halts!
we're not sure if she jumps lol. I'm going to try her onthe cavalettis maybe next week and see.
no sorry, no videos of riding. i've got one of her trotting but i doubt that would help?
She was a driving pony so i don't think she's done much cantering. I only ride her on a sunday
