Making a rug ..

My welsh a is very hard to fit for rugs.
They just fall off her!!
Ive got a old fleece (for a pet bed

Never used it tho!) and have laid out her rug on top and theres plenty of material and i can make it to measure ..
Am i being crazy to even attempt?!

Not at all. Afterall, all rugs are made the exact same way!! - Just spend a bit of time and get the measurements and fit right, even more than you think as I know someone who made a rug and it looked great in the end.x

I think the main problem with making your own rugs is ypou will probably have to hand sew as a domestic sewing machine is unlikely to be powerful enough the sew through the several thicknesses of webbing....good luck though.

There is a book about making horse clothing, in that series of thin books you often see in the BHS bookshop, it has instructions for making rugs, numnahs, tail guards etc

I'm thinking of buying it for my mum when we finally buy a horse, keep her and her sewing machine busy and save us some cash!

Seriously, you could postentially save quite a bit doing this, even if you only ever do fleeces and under blankets.
