making an insurance claim with a certain dodgy insurer

Thanks guys, very interesting :)

I'm claiming vets bills only cos he's a pet. They're already saying there's a £137 (or £139) excess - I'll have to check. They also say I'll have to pay 17% of the final amount. Again that sounds unusual and they could be trying it on. I pay almost £30 a month for one horse and have done for several years, so I expect a good service.

My vet said give them as little information as possible since they seem to "grasp" at anything to wriggle out.

They apparently have regular "fires" which result in records being destroyed.

Dude

Im with them too and its £139.00 excess and once you meet that they pay the rest. They didnt pay me ONLY because they excluded his microchip and tetanus, otherwise they would of payed out.I sent them a email and the boss wrote back to me.

I sucessfully claimed with said insurer, wasn't a great experience but I got thosands for vets fees and 100% of the sun insured back on loss of use, without a concrete diagnosis. My main advice would be to be as tough as you can just bully everyone you speak to to get what you need, ask to speak managers, refuse to hang up unless you get answers ect ect phone everyweek for updates. On the claim form make sure when they ask the question do you want them to pay the vet direct or you tick vet direct, I didn't big mistake! Forward all bills, reminders final reminders ect to them and get photo copies yourself. I also kept a diary of times and names of everyone I spoke too. It took me about a 9 months to get my Loss of use and about 4 months to get vets fees, but I won't have got that if I just took what they told me.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Must point out that it is up to you to pay the vet! Some big vets may be prepared to wait for payment but why should they? It is a question asked on the form but have you asked the vet if they are prepared to wait for payment form the insurance company? The contract for payment for the service is between you and the vet! It really gets my goat when people expect the vet to wait for payment after they have done a job - how long would you wait to be paid for doing a job?

I had the misfortune to have to make 2 claims for horses that died within 3 months of each other.
The first was insured with the NFU - can't fault them at all, brilliant in every way. Very understanding, one visit to the office and one form to fill in. There were 2 vet's practices involved. Immediate full pay out.
The other was an older, but very fit and well horse, insured with different company, that makes a big deal of insuring older horses. I found them distressing to deal with. Several phone calls, numerous letters. Backwards and forwards. Everytime I answered one question they asked another. They eventually did settle in full, but I will never use them again.
Have heard hideous tales of insurance company discussed above, so have not used them, but I know some people who have.
It's probably the same as most things - you get what you pay for.

Ive been insured with said company for nearly 3 yrs and we claimed for my horses nav and remedial shoeing ... sent invoices and filled out claimes form, got a letter through saying that are insurance had been cancelled as we didnt pay it for a couple months! :O Its direct debit and comes out of the account every month, we checked with our insurance broker and they said we were paid up to date! so they contacted said company and we got a letter through saying that he wasnt covered during this time so the claim is invalid and that we are no longer insured for fore feet and nav! But we had paid for the insurance :O A*SHOLES :@ but my dad refuses to change companys or demand the insurance money back inwhich we paid whilst he was appantly not covered!
