Has anyone managed to use their equestrian skills to earn a bit extra alongside their normal job? I’ve heard of people trying things like starting bit banks, taking horsey photos, hiring themselves out as event grooms etc to make some money for shows etc. Any other good ideas out there?

- Pet sitting, freelance grooms
- some people train in complimentary therapies (massage etc.), saddle fitting... etc. but keep in mind the good ones have years and years of training
- washing and repairing rugs (industrial size washing machine & heavy duty sewing machine required, plus skills! :-)
- freelance instructors (consider BHS qualifications)
- behavioural trainers (e.g. doing ground work with horses, including correcting issues)
- drawing and painting pet portraits
- designing and selling horse cards, key rings, other small items
- feed merchants
- rent out horsebox or trailer

make sure you have the right insurance in place though... :-)

And some more...

- rent out parking space for trailers/lorries
- if you have your own land/yard and space, take on retirement liveries or youngsters
- sell second hand tack at carboot sales
- make and field shelters, stabling, fencing... carpentry skill required!

I know someone who makes money buying tack/farm bits and bobs cheap at cattle markets/horse auctions and cleans them up and sells them on ebay. It's surprising what you can make on these sort of things as lots of people wouldn't know to go to these auctions so you can pick things up really cheap if there isn't much interest.

I'm trying Ann Summers parties at the moment. Anyone in Exeter/Launceston/Truro/Camborne areas fancy holding a party to get the commission?
