Making good use of my land

Hi all I have 7 acres of pasture, with a water feed. What changes do i need to make so that I can rent out for equestrian use?

How many stables should I supply for this size land?

How much should I expect to charge?

Any information is greatly recieved.;)

Where abouts are you? And I think the reccomendation is 2 acres per horse so 3/4 stables would probably do.

We have the field just outside Rangeworthy (near Bristol). At present the local farmer uses to graze for his sheep! free of charge, so I have decided to do something more - but I have no experience with horses.

Obvioulsy I need to establish costs of stables etc and whether it would be economical to do.

If you dont know about horses then I would probably just put up a field shelter, otherwise I think you could end up with sky high costs, I dont know your area but would maybe hazard a guess at £50 a week, but thats probably way way out...
 
Ooh, where to start?? First off,you'll need to apply for change of use if this is classified as agricultural land, horses aren't classed as agricultural animals unless you're going to eat them!

The number of horses you can keep on seven acres depends very much on how you manage the land. You will need secure, horse friendly fencing. You'll need to divide your land into several separate paddocks so that you can rest areas.

You'll need planning permission for stables/tack room/hay barn. Electricity will be a bonus. You're going to have to invest a considerable amount of money for a livery yard if that's the direction you want to go in and think carefully about how you will get a return on your investment.

A lot of people who 'know nothing about horses' reckon they can make a quick buck out of horse owners, who are all obviously jolly rich!! Get some advice, it may be some time before you see a return on your investment.
