following on from my should i jump her post, i was wondering if there's anything simple you can do to brighten up hacks a little bit?
as she's 26, i think she is getting a bit bored of the same tracks every time. although the time is limited and the area where we can hack, i want soemthing to do that makes it a bit more interesting for her and for me. any ideas?

Do the same rides backwards! when I was younger, we used to all get off and do "in hand showing lol" and then take some lunch!

hehe backwards. i think she'd just stop and turn round so i was facing the right way

and there isn't time for stopping to do stuff

we did once in the summer when there was loads of people so the jobs got done super quickly, we stopped for lunch and that was fun

How about taking some people along on foot, to make it like a walk, rather than a hack. My boyfriend sometimes comes with me and my mare and she adores it. I think she feels like she's properly part of the family, bless. We stop and look at things and he finds interesting plants and stuff, sometimes I get off and walk along with him. It is just different for them.
Or, do some exercises. What about a bit of leg yielding, shoulder-in etc - give her something to think about.
Can you box her anywhere new?

Ideas!

- Get a group of you together (other people from the yard and arrange to go out together) will be fun and you can all have a good chat and Blacky will be happy with the other ponies.

- You could try a bit of schooling on a hack (eg practise your transitions, even a bit of leg yield/shouler in when you are off the road) For example you could see a lamp post further down the road and decide you are going to trot when you reach it and then you might see a red car parked further along the road and decide to walk there. See how accurate you can be.

- Do the rides backwards (as others have suggested)

hope this helps xxx

thanks. but going with other people is a problem as there isn't many volunteers to go with. and i don't really do schooling. i've never had a lesson ever but i could try your idea Rhianne - the i'm gonna trot when i get to the... idea lol
